The parts to replace an isolator bushing only cost like $40.00... And they are very easy to replace... You could probably watch a you tube video and fix it your self.

Absolutely spot on. The owner was simply pulling rank and trying to force me to drive the Volvo knowing full-well that I couldn't/wouldn't. They simply said drive that truck or drive nothing.

all trucks shift different. new ,old, diff. makes and models.

I've been driving over 30 yrs and get in a new or different truck and have to learn the trucks shift idiosyncrasies.

adapting is part of knowing your job.

A shifter that is not working properly is not an "idiosyncrasy", it's a broken shifter. Very simple.

"Adapting" to broken equipment is not part of any job I'm willing to do when it involves transporting up to 80,000-lb loads.

"Knowing a job" means identifying when equipment is not working properly and is unsafe to operate.

Now that we've cleared that up-

Running a company means investing in repairs and maintenance of equipment vital to operating the business. Refusing to spend money to make repairs is not very "adaptive". Expecting that an employee will cave in to pressure to operate unsafe equipment falls under not "knowing a business".

    See how that works?

Except I've driven trucks with less than 1,000 miles on them that shift differently. Every truck I've ever driven is slightly diffrent. Takes between 10 minutes to all day to get used to it.
Different engines with different hp ratings. Diffrent emissions. Diffrent transmission. Different rear ends. Heck the difference in pulling a flat bed empty vs. loaded (wind resistance) makes the shifting different.

I guess we get all kinds on this forum and that's why you're mentioning shifting differences that every experienced driver knows how to adapt to.

This thread is about a shifter that hits the center console and pulls back behind the captain's chair. The shifter does not come out of gear until it's well into the position of the gear opposite it.

There is nothing to "get used to" with that kind of shifting dynamic. Fix the truck, sell it or let the old man who's been driving it for years [and who probably screwed it up in the first place] drive it.

I agree. If you're bashing your knuckles into the dash whenever you swing the lever there is an issue.

I am puzzled with you drivers, if the owner doesn't fix a safety related issue, why in the hell are you driving the truck?

This is one of those rare instances on TTR where I refused to and was told I wouldn't work unless I did. So, I'm still not working and I'm not even sure if it was a resignation or if I was fired.

Another interesting nugget about this whole thing is that I gave the company a poor review on their company Facebook page and they responded with negative things that previous employers allegedly said about me.

I've been through some nonsense with past employers up to and including not getting paid final checks, etc. However, I've never tried to litigate a matter until now. I'm fairly certain they've broken at least a few DOT/labor laws by any state's standards.

So it is down to you are responsible for protecting yourself and others, contact the state labor board with this and get it resolved, something getting that loose is broken and the next break on it will be no shifting because you will be holding that shifter in your hand disconnected from the tranny.
