So, what's the thing with that gravel trains and alll those Michigan 8-axle trailers? I read that they can go up to 160 000 lbs...With 11 axles total, right? But I also saw on some site that truck with 9 axles (1st trailer spread axle, on second single axle dolly+one lift axle in the midlle+ tandem on the end), and they said that it also can go up to 160 000 lbs. And what drive train they should have for that load? I saw on some site that guy have 475hp engine + 5,25 rears+13 speed trans.

That's a lot of weight...But do they run only on-road? I mean, the trailers are too heavy to go on some mud...at least as I see it :biggrin_25525:

Do you have a pic of what your talking about? Are you refering to doubles or a single trailer?

The pic that Baack put up is the MI A-Trains/Gravel Trains.

Yes, the question about 9 axles was about a A-train, just with 9 axles total. And question about drive train was general about those 160 000 lbs total combos. And I will try to find the picture about that 9 axle...

    Edit: [IMG]

That's the one W/9 axles and 160k total

I ran a tandem 9 quad nine set of doubles yanking steel. Gross was 161,000. Could do 164k if i had floats on my steers.

First truck was a 425hp cat, 13 speed, 3.70s, my 2nd was a 550hp E cat, 18, 3.70s, nothing special is needed. The gravel haulers run lower rear ends do to being off road and stuff.

Oh dont let that 161k fool ya, i always had more on :biggrin_25525:

I want to know how they dump those michigan gravel trains. Do you have to unhook the second trailer in order to dump the first one?? Seems to me it would take alot of time to dump those but I could be wrong.
