You make it sound like it was a life or death situation! Was it all that bad? I hope you weren't permanently scarred or anything, having to do that.

Our company has 2 Great Dane 53' drop deck flats, that have the axles fixed at the rear. Old Dominion truck leasing must have screwed up, and ordered them wrong, because we have 2, and another local company has a couple. They were probably leased to us as "53' drop deck flat", and no one at our company looked at them, until they were put in service. Both companies are in and out of tight factories all day long. With a day cab, you just gotta be careful. But one of our contractors has a W900 Kenworth, with a 70" aerodyne sleeper. He really has his work cut out for him with those.

The regulations in MI says the center of the tandems must be between 37’ and 41’ from the kingpin. I once got a ticket from MSP for my tandems being one hole too far forward. The measurement was 36’ 6”.

Good reason not to go north.

Actually Michigan is the only place I know of that does have a minimum KPRA as well as a maximum. They actually had University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute do some simulations when 53' trailers first came on the scene and then wrote a law based on the paper they put out. If I recall correctly from my days at the Great Pumpkin only the first 3 holes on the slider were too far forward so a wild and crazy lawbreaker would be a foot or so too short. I'm pretty sure the MSP has better things to do than worry about.

Virginia scale on i95, Maryland scale (both north and south) before Delaware bridge, Connecticut, NJ scale on i78, and many more. Dot on these scales will get out their big measuring tape. Maryland scale by Delaware bridge, I’ve seen it myself.

If you’re 33,800 on the trailer axle and the tandems are all the way to the back, then the shipper loaded you the wrong way. The shipper will load you by the stop or according the space bought by the customer. These people don’t know anything about the kingpin rule.

The worst job I ever saw cornering was at the TA in Ontario.

Somebody literally tore the entire front end off of this black 379.

It was strewn about next to the truck.

That place is like 30 or 40 acres, so why he'd park on the corner of a row is beyond me.

Somebody put a thread on here with video of SWIFT tearing a Volvo apart.
Dude cuts it too sharp, then backs up, pulls forward, backs, pulls forward, backs.

Basically pulls the front end out of the truck.

I posted pics on here someplace of some dude with a moose bumper that obliterated a Swift truck parked on the end at the TA in Vegas.

He kept right on going too.

Kinda like that scene outta Smokey & The Bandit.

Like you? Before being derisive you might wanna check the law.
    From https://www.michigan.gov/documents/Loads_dim_87014_7.pdf

Semitrailers longer than 50 feet shall have a wheelbase of 37 feet to 41 feet (measured from the kingpin coupling to the center of the
axles or to the center of the tandem axle assembly if equipped with 2 axles).
