Do you agree with reserved truck stop parking?

He’ll no. As an employee driver I would NEVER pay for reserved parking that wasn’t reimbursed. It’s their equipment moving their freight for their rates, so the carrier will ALWAYS pay any parking costs incurred by employee drivers. They want those hours [and revenue] maximized? Then reserved parking is often a must

But maybe parking charges can be added as an authorized card charge, the same way Cat scale charges are allowed on fuel cards. That would be helpful so drivers don’t have to wait for reimbursement.

 

Maybe in the future truckstops will have one of those pre-pass sensors at the gate. The company gets the bill.

I've decided I'm just going to work Thanksgiving day and December 24-26 . No parking issues to deal with.

 

Was at the Sacramento 49er today for a quick shower. They no longer have someone working the exit booth.

If you stay longer than the free 4 hours but have receipts for food or truck services you have to take them inside to the fuel desk to get a validated exit ticket before getting in line to exit. No cash is accepted at the exit kiosk. Credit cards only.

I can see this being a disaster quickly. Its bound to happen where you get a driver who's a couple minutes shy of his 4 hours get in line to leave and by the time he reaches the gate it's over 4 hours and he has no credit card to pay so now the line is backed up a mile long as he parks blocking the gate and goes inside to get the issue resolved. Lots of other scenarios that are bound to happen, you just know it's going to happen.

You have a couple issues with that idea.
1. Like STexan said I think it was it's a small percentage of truckers an even 4wheelers who do the healthy option.
2. Fresh veggies an the like go bad quick. Whether a pre-made salad, or sitting out. I doubt a truck stop wants to deal with the loss in money, even if it's small.
3. Quallity veggies an fruit don't come cheap if your not buying in bulk. One can hit a walmart, fruit stand, farm market etc to get all the good veggies an fruit they want.
4. Why is it "sad" the food in your truck is better then truck stop food? I know the stuff I buy an cook is always better then a truck stop. I like to indulge at times enjoy a good sit down meal. I know though if I ever want good quality food on a regular basis, I gotta make it myself, or get the wife to.

I would rather cook my own BBQ, or make my salad, or my own meal even the majority of the time. An yes...I'm pretty confident what I cook is far better then your Dennys, Subway, iron skillet whatever. Portable grills are great, same with skillets, crock pot, fryer(air or normal oil), etc.

Not to mention it's cheaper to fix my own meals most of the time.

You can make some awesome country ribs in a crock pot. Set that sucker for 8 hours on low, do your thing, an then eat like a king at the end of the day.

Good luck though, as I do agree they need more "quality" food at a stop. I just don't think "Fresh" would last very long or justify the loss when they have to trash most of it.

You know that heroin,ICE(Meth/Crank) and speed are drugs right? An they were being abused in the 80s, 90s, an probably even now. That hasn't changed in the history of trucking. Just like any other industry just about you will find drug use. Stockbrokers to truckers. Meth has been used as a stay up drug forever, aka Crank. Blame the bikers they were the ones selling an transporting that #### all over the country. I will agree that prescription drugs are abused far more now then back then. Now a days you got idiots buying adderal from people with prescriptions for it. It's like meth/crank/speed. Will keep you up all night, and of course get you addicted like crazy. On the bright side though you won't look 90 when your 23 and on meth. Silver lining folks...always a silver lining.

I don't deny there are idiots out there behind the wheel. We all know that. I just don't agree with the blanket statements. Just like drugs, there will always be idiots out there.

An hey..I got no beef with hookers. Them ladies need to earn a living somehow. Not my cup of tea but eh...if your willing to pay for it, go you.(Not specific Yous here, general You's. This part is not directed to Tripledigitbullhauler.) Vegas and Amsterdam have both shown legal prostitution can be done.

It makes no sense that an OTR trucker would not go for the premium meal that cost more but has better health properties. Kwik Trips have real food made daily and whenever i stopped there i pretty much over spent and said thank you because i saw the large staff that was required to keep those foods prepped. Oil drowned vegetables at the petro/TA buffet tables will raise your blood pressure. You sleeper chefs should dedicate more time hauling than playing with pots and pans.

Oh, and please support your small truck stops that have real hot food for you! Don't be cheap!

 

All you owner op’s that want to support the mom and pop’s with sit down restaurants will have to step your game up now. Since the meal allowance is gone for company drivers it would be smarter for us to try and save as much money as possible while on the road to take advantage of the standard deduction doubling.
