Going to Canada in an ungoverned truck

It is not true. You'll pay fine for over speeding, exceeding the seed limit like everywhere else

 

No big deal. Set the speed limiter for 65mph, but recalibrate the ECM gear ratio/tire size factor by 15%. They can plug in and see a 65mph limit, but your governor will be at 75.

If the bear wants to jack up the rear end and measure the gear ratio to bust you for fudging the gear calibration, tip your hat and move on. But 99% of the time they don't even check the ecu at scales and when they do, 99% of the time they just plug in and see if the limiter is set. So unless they catch you speeding they really won't be motivated.

 

And what will your speedometer read if you do that?

 

The one on the GPS will read just fine.

The one in the dash may or may not read accurately depending on whether it gets its own measurement or piggybacks off the ecm.

 

I know numerous Canadian drivers who have driver rewards and run Quebec all the time and have never been ticketed for it.

 

The fact that the driver respects the speed limit is not sufficient to meet this requirement.

I work for a Canadian company, I don't go to Canada, but I hear the Windsor scale house will check trucks at times. I'll say this, I have yet to have a Canadian owner operator pass me in Michigan. I run the Port Huron and Detroit routes regularly. I pull a Canadian plated trailer, with the company name and Windsor ON plastered on three sides... I have more than a few Canadian drivers scratching their heads... I have no speed limiter...

 

If you are not in Ontario or Quebec there is NO need to have the limiter set. even with ON or QC plates.
And again there is no ''Canadian'' mandate for speed limiters.

 

Only appears to be in Ontario and Quebec. Everything West of there are just normal truck rules.
My company had me on a load going from Houston to LaTuque PQ. I aint going to fool with the ECM on my truck just for 1 load.

 

It is just those two provinces, keep it at the posted speed limit and you should be fine.
