I must be unique. It seems like every post I read from a new driver, they all want the same thing.....HOMETIME and/or weekends off. I could care less about having weekends off...a luxury I have never had. And I prefer to have NO hometime as I will have NO HOME when I start.

Am I really that much different?

No you are serious about this, they just seem to want a "normal" job.

I learned a long time ago that freight takes you all over the place, and sometimes it is far away from home. To expect a company to have a crystal ball and be able to get you home on a specific date for some stupid thing is really not a good thing to cling to.

I have had my fill of "normal jobs" I am retiring from my "normal job". I want to do OTR with the hubby for 5-10 years, depending on how we like it and how much $$ we are truly making. After 10 yrs, he will be in the Social Security age range and we can stop and build our dream shop. At that point, then maybe we might take a local job hauling a few days a week, until we decide to not work at all anymore. I blame my wanderlust on my mom and the fact she moved me around a lot as a child. I was constantly going some place else. I get antsy if I am stuck in the same place for too long....like I am now. I've had close to 30 addresses, that I can remember and I've had this current address for 10 yrs now.....time to go!

We want something WE can work on. Not interested in a modern electrical computerized engine and friggin DEF. Nothing but problems with those engines because of that junk.
And we wanted a cabover because of the shorter wheelbase.

They’re doing better with all the pollution and electronics now. Was a nightmare.
You’re much like me. I stay out three months. Have a house I own. No big deal. Need to sell it.

Sure you don’t wanna stay there? Work for BillyBob’s Alligator eatery. Only problem is their drivers disappearing. Don’t quit. Not fired. Just disappear. Like into thin air?

OK time for a newbie question.....what is a dedicated route? What is the appeal of this kind of route? how does it differ from OTR?

    Wargames Thanks this.

As the name implied it is dedicated. You will be hauling for one customer, usually to and feom the same place every week. Pros are very predictable and dependable income, you get to know what to expect, where to park, where to eat and so on. Cons, it is boring and if your goal is to break away from the monotony of a "regular" job then dedicated is not for you.

OTR can mean many things to many companies. True OTR is irregular and unpredictable, taking you all over the country as demand dictates. Many companies are offering OTR but in reality it is regional at best or dedicated in disguise.
