I was reading a thread the other day and the person said that if they haul for Mercer or Landstar with their own authority that they can use Mercer or Landstar"s fuel card.

I did not realize they would do that. Could someone explain to me how that works? Are there other things you can use like say tire discounts?

And I was just wondering if Mercer sells or leases trailers to Independents in addition to their trucks that are leased on. Are there other companies that do that
(with reasonable rates) with van trailers?

I do both, I haul for LS and also am leased with LS, and I don't have a fuel card when I haul for LS. it is only for BCOs.

EDIT- Clarify, I have trucks that are under one of my authorities and trucks that are leased with LS.

It all depends on your situation. If your hauling brokered loads from LS, then no, your on contract for that load only. You would not be eligible for the lease operations benefits, like the fuel card and other things they have.

If you at running independently under your own numbers, not leased on to a company. You may want to look into something like NASTC. They offer a lot of the same type of fuel and service/parts discount programs.

Landstar will provide you with a Comdata card and it will qualify for the discount fuel as a qualified carrier. You will get same discount as their owner operators. You will not receive fuel advance on loads so unless you haul a load and have money on that card you can’t use it for fuel.

IndianaF150 and Dino soar Thank this.

When I was approved in 2011 I was issued a comdata card along with fuel I also qualified for all other lcapp discounts like tires. That is on the 2 day pay called the savings plus, it’s how they pay you in 2 days or it takes longer to go direct to bank. They may not do it for new approved carriers now I don’t know

No idear on Mercer. CH Robinson will give you 50% of the load pay once you are loaded on T-Chek.

Do you have to give up a certain percentage of the load for that?

What kind of a time frame do they pay the rest?
