Got inspected at a weigh station in VA. First time in 15 yrs. Thankfully the officer was super helpful and knowledgeable. It must have been hot shot day at the weigh station. I did get a warning I gess you would call it but he explained everything and gave me a paper that I had to sign and send it that I fixed the problem. The problem... the brake away cable is not allowed to be connected to the chains on a gooseneck, it has to be connected to your hitch. Never knew that. So he put an orange sticker on my passenger side window with an 8 on it. He said it will let all weigh stations know that I have been inspected. I do do paper logs. I am guessing the 8 is for 8 days in 30? But not sure. Anyone else know?
Pull around back driver... gulp 1st weigh station stop

This website explains the CVSA sticker he put on your windshield.

It is a warning with no fine but you just got yourself some points on your csa score that you can do nothing about.
Surprised that he gave you a sticker.
They are usually reserved for totally clean inspections with out even warnings. -
The 8 is for 2018. And there are corners that they may or may not tear off to signify first, second, third, or fourth quarter depending on which corner they tear off. Also the color of the sticker signifies which weigh station the inspection was done at. That’s the way it was explained to me.

And after I clicked on that link I learned that I am misinformed lol. Ignore that last post

This might be a dumb question.. do pardon my lack of knowledge if I'm way off base.
Why would you hook the breakaway cable to the chains in the first place?
The chains are connected to the trailer, so if it came unhitched, the cable can't jerk free and activate the emergency WHOOOAAA brake.
Also.. it's advised to cross those chains.
99% of people don't do that, but if you think about it, if a decoupling wete to take place, the hitch could drop down into the X and hold the tongue more straight than the standard wide attachment.
Just a thought.
The cable comment was not meant as an attack.. please don't take it that way. -
This Indiana DOT official has lots of good info on his page. Hope it helps

Remove the brake away cable from the hook that is connected to the chain. Use another hook or snap to attach the cable to the D-ring that the safety chain uses. That is all there is to it. You must have 3 hooks, 2 chains and 1 for the cable.
