I always swore I would never drive an automatic with a tanker behind it. When I started hauling propane, the company put me in a Cascadia with an Ultrashift, and I really liked it. But my trailer had baffles, I was always at 90% capacity, and propane isn't very dense.
You couldn't force me to drive an automatic with a smoothbore tank behind it. And you probably couldn't force me to drive an automatic with very dense liquid (like caustic) behind it, even in a baffled trailer.
Automatic for tanker?
