I had to leave school early before receiving my CDL to help care for a terminally ill parent and now wondering if that is some kind of hardship that will allow me out of the contract?

I missed talking to my grandfather on his death bed. But I did get to his funeral.
And this was driving my own truck. Due to not being able to get a load home. And could not afford the fuel for like 1,700 miles to get home.

    Did you read the contract?

Most likely you can quit but you still need to pay for it.

I cannot answer that until you have read the contract. If you quit now, you PROBABLY will be billed for the tuition.

Im not a lawyer don't pretend to know anything without having your contract in front on the table.

You can probably assume that trucking has no value to your family even if they are dying. Its YOU that is the commodity and keeps the freight rolling.

I want to go back but that may not be an option. Will know next week when visiting the doc. Besides not wanting to leave the parent who is going through this, I'm going to need to be here to care for him.

Be very careful here regarding the parent's illness. Depending on the physical limitations or any other limiting problems at basic living such as bathing, cooking, hydrating and other related life chores, if the parent is too sick to do these things, you can provide caregiving for a while. Then you get exhausted if not outright frusterated and angry. Not to mention the relentless drain on the finances to nothing.

The Doctor has certain powers that he may choose to write orders to make it possible for you to have better care for that parent. Don't go into this thing blind. It's a really big deal here. At some point you will need help.

Did you tell the school you were leaving? And why? Sometimes these things can be worked out.
But if you just took off with no notice, no matter how good your reason, they'll probably want you to honor the contract.
See if they'll hold a spot for you in a later class if you plan on going back.

Also depends on how much time you invested with the school.
If you were two days from testing out, then unlikely. If it was your first day you likely will get some back.

At my school, it was ...
    1st week get 50% back.
    2nd week get 25% back.
3rd and 4th week, owe full amount.

But like others said, it's in your contract. You need to read it and see. Also you need to communicate with the school. They want your money so will be willing to work with you if they know what is going on.

You signed your name on that contract.
    That should mean something.
    Or are you meaningless?
