Howdy howdy. I'm curious if anyone here has driven for Southern Haulers, or currently is. I saw they're hiring out of the Decatur, AL terminal and I spoke with the terminal manager this morning. Has anyone heard anything about this company, good and bad? This would be my first end dump/dump truck job but I do want to get into it. I'm over the mega carrier life. Also I'll take any advice yall can give for going into this side of things.

Thought you had a passion for tankers!
Beelman Truck Company in Montevello might have something like what you want.

Lol I still want to do tanker, but at the same time this would have me home everyday. If I don't get this job then I'll be taking my hazmat/tanker test next month and go that route. If I do, it'll be Tidewater. My problem is I want to be home. Also, I live about 2.5 hours or so from Montevallo so I'm not sure if they'd go for that for a local job.

Honestly I don't know which route I want to go because I've always wanted to pull both a tanker and an end dump. The end dump opportunity is right around the corner, I just need to submit the app and the tm in Decatur said he'll call corporate or who ever to try to move my application along quicker.

Well, if you want to be home every day, just do what you need to do.
Running the roads isn't for everyone's situation.

My friend runs for Ike Transport hauling coils, etc out of Decatur several times a week. He runs KY,TN,AL,AR,GA and gets home thru the week and on weekends. I think he makes around 1400 or so gross a week, 2000 miles average.

I've thought about them a little and have seen their ads, but I haven't gave it that much thought. I've never thought about pulling a covered wagon. Are they considered one of the megas and are they concerned with the sleep test bs?

No sleep test that he ever mentioned. They are owned by Big G Express, and they are switching to sliding tarp systems. He gets paid for everything he does, and most of his runs are 350 miles ore less.

I don't know much about Southern Haulers at all, but. What I do know about them is. Their trucks are always filthy, and they do haul steel coils in the end dump.

I know it's hard keeping a truck clean in and out of the mills and scrap yards, but dang it looks like they never get washed. Not sure how you feel about about carrying an unsecured coil turned side ways in a end dump, but not for me. And, there isn't many loads I have ever turned down.

Makes me wonder what else they may be slack about. I have no idea of what or how they pay.
