My second driving job was hauling chicken and produce for a company in South Alabama. Ran up and down US 431 quite a bit and I couldn't tell you the number of times I heard about the incident you described. That was THE TALK for a long time. Flatbed going under the bridge, a van or reefer following him all the way to crunch time.
After they removed the bridge and opened up the 4 lane, I still found myself being extra cautious, looking for that dang bridge, thinking I had missed the turn onto the bypass, for a long time after that.
