Ok at this moment I’m rolling on recaps I’m new to it usually have been running and I just get a reset in. So I have a load going to Chicago I’m 90 miles out. At midnight got hours back. But my dispatch gave me a loud from the same place. The appointment for the pickup is 1130-2399. My original plan was to leave right when I got my hours at midnight cause they told me to get it there soon as I can cause loads already late I told them I didn’t have enough hours to make appointment. So my question is now, do you think it’s better to get there at 1130 so they will have the pickup ready? Also say I did get there early like 2am, if I burned those 1hr30 min off my 10 hours if I got a ten hour break in would I get those hours back or have to wait till midnight?

You get your recap hours back at midnight ... If you have existing hours still available, go get the load. Run your hours out. Take a 10 to after midnight when you get your recap back.

If u take a 10 and have hours left. U will get those hrs back. Then at midnight tonight if u have recaps coming u will get those back at that time.

10-4. Yeah they told me I could pick it up whenever but I read the reviews on the place before I went and there all negative about trailers being loaded. But load isn’t ready so I’ll be a night crawler tonight lol I just didn’t wanna have to wait till midnight to get the hours for the day back. Thanks for the answer

And don’t forget. If you shut down with 2:00 hours left on your 70, you can roll at 22:01 and won’t need to stop at midnight. The eld will give you your hours at midnight while rolling. This can be to your benefit in some cases to let you arrive earlier (maybe before rush hour) and start another break earlier if need be.

Ok good deal. This is new to me. I kinda like running reset better cause if I just run 3to3500 a week I want the reset. Dealing with recaps seems like I won’t make as many miles idk I’m still learning, by the way like the little pump jack you have. I was a roughneck for 5 years on and off.

All depends on your outfit and their load offerings and how they dispatch. If a reset opportunity presents itself at the right time and the appointments allow it. Take your reset. If you can’t you can’t. The key is to take them deep into your 70 where you’re not “throwing away” too many hours the day you sit. Everybody’s situation is different and requires a different mindset regarding resets if they are to somehow assure more production in a given logistical scheme.

Where I am, my best months have been all running recaps. We do hard appointments at both ends, typically so reset often just aren’t possible. Also our office is VERY GOOD at assigning loads to maximize potential with projected hours and keeping repowers to an absolute minimum.

Nothing wrong with running on recaps I don't take a 34 unless I am home . sitting is stupid and usually is no good reason for you to sit these companies most times can find a load they can make decent money on but it doesn't cost anything or next to nothing to have you sit to wait on something else that might pay a little more. you can average 8.75 on duty hours a day and work for ever . even if you drive a few 11s you useually will have a day with loading or unloading that you will get back to the 8.75 average. if you waste your on duty time at docks that's on you . you don't need to show any more than 5 minutes
