Cops hardly show up for court arraignments. They are not required to be there. In almost every traffic court fighting a ticket is a 2 step 2 court date process. First is a plea (then in the states that allow it) you decide if you want a bench or a Jury trial. Then the Judge (or court clerk) sets a court date. You can bet in almost 99% of the time the cop will be there. At that actual court date if the cop has a legit reason for not being there and this has been forwarded to the person prosecuting you, most Judges are inclined to give the state at least 1 continuance. Yes there are also a lot of Judges that want those dockets cleared. I was told of a Judge in North Carolina that recently directed the State make a deal with the driver or have the whole case tossed because the Deputy that wrote the ticket had quit. The case was tossed.

My advice has always been be grownup about the situation. I don't advise anyone to go alone with no legal training into court and expect a "miracle". I do advise speaking with an attorney that knows how the local courts work and how much leeway the courts will give. Most attorneys will give this advice free or will only charge you a nominal fee. There are a lot of myths floating out there about this. First step in protecting a CDL is obeying the law. The next step is seeking legal advice. Any driver that comes into TTR or sits at a Truck Stop and listens to a truck stop Attorney deserves to lose their CDL!
