Mtn driving can be intimidating, for sure. Especially during the winter months when there's snow and ice.
Going up isn't so bad, it's the going down that can be scary.
Use your jake brake to keep your speed under control when descending down the mtn. Go slow, even tho super truckers are passing you by. There's usually a cop hiding out at the bottom, waiting to give them a big speeding ticket.
You can do this! Keep practicing.
And yes, try to get with a different trainer, the guy your with sounds like a selfish douche bag.Deonsmom Thanks this. -
@jungledrums
Yes they are very intimidating! Thanks for the advice.jungledrums Thanks this. -
Your welcome. And if your cell phone has reception in these places, your welcome to give me a call if talking to someone would help .
My first trucking job sent us straight to the mtns of Oregon, and I was terrified.
If I can do it, so can you.
Hang in there, it gets easierDeonsmom Thanks this. -

On the one hand, caution is good. On the other hand, an excess of caution can be bad.
It is VERY difficult for any of us to make a judgement call here. -
@jungledrums , how's the baby girl doing?

Is it just me, or does nobody ever get a good trainer to start with. Maybe those that do just don't talk about it.
I know I would make a lousy trainer, and everybody would be posting about me. lolGhentSaintPeters and Farmerbob1 Thank this. -
I'm curious as to how OP is doing now, about 9 months later?
Starmac, I think the problem is you get so many people who want to make money, but don't want to train. But they decide to train anyways because they need the money.
At my orientation and also from reading on the net, it seems probably 75% of drivers fresh out of CDL school are broke (like the OP was). Therefore, these trainers who are only in it for the money know they can take advantage of people like that.
Honestly, the good trainers are severely underpaid. No way in hell you could pay me enough money to live in something smaller than an American prison cell for more than the first month or so to get the initial training phase out of the way.
These trainers, the trainers who actually LIKE TEACHING PEOPLE, are doing God's work. God bless them. As I said, they are severely underpaid for how mentally taxing it is to share a space so small with a stranger.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
I could probably share the space easier than riding with some I see, especially the first day or mountains or inclement weather or just in the truckstop parking lol
When I went to high school, the schools had drivers ed, I took it my senior year, 2 years after I already had mu license, I had friends that would pull up beside mo om main and we would tyy to race. lol
I gave the trainer fits and It was a good thing he had a brake pedal on his side, or he may have lost it. lol
