i had this tnd 730 rand mcnally for 4 years ,bought new off the shelf, worked very good last 4 years till now ,spent the other night updating all softwear and maps ,cause it would freeze up ,then i use the reset button and work fine for awhile in one day i had to reset it 7 times ,thats why i did all the updates and stuff ,i think its at end of it life ,might be a softwear issuse but when i hit that button in the dock ,said no known erros exists.

The 530/730 were the best newer GPS units Rand made, all the newer stuff is junk; different layout, random reboots, crashes, route loss, etc.

The 510/710 had better build quality & mount design though...

    Everett Thanks this.

Have you loaded any POI files from an outside source? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a corrupt POI file that I had downloaded from POI Factory.

I still get some out of memory freezes every now and then. But the problem with it hanging all the time is over.

    Everett Thanks this.

This is typical due to a power cord or power socket issue.. The Rand is likely to random freeze / lock up due to micro-vibrations in the incoming power connection. Gently squeeze the USB slightly so that the inner conductor strip is tighter when you plug it into the GPS socket. (SEE PICTURE) Also, always wrap the power cord once or twice around the mount neck to reduce strain. Finally, make sure that the cig lighter male end isn't getting loose or the fuse inside isn't loose and make sure that your lighter socket itself isn't loose and causing the power plug to vibrate out.

Those are (by far) the most common "locks and freezes" fixes to the Rand brand of GPS if your updates are current and you have no corrupt files.
