    Yes. Yes and Yes.

    Rental? Hell yes.

I picked up a nice little kitty two door sweet thing to take wife and myself home out of Memphis one day leaving FFE. It was my luck for it to be candy apple red too. Couldnt get out of town without the Law lowriding on my ###. Show boated far enough out into the woods and open it up.

Later everything disposed of, turned in the car and the rental agent scanned it. Smiled and asked for my license, Oh CDL. Ty sir, have a great day.

Problems? Oh no for you. No problem. What with the touch of making time you did with our car. We have a mustang program to offer you now and then into the future if you care to partake in some enjoyment.

    WOULD I?

Be still my beating heart. You really should not be putting that steak in front of me.

Alcohol I pay for it with cash. Generally the white whiskers on my face and greying hair unshaving a week tends to be ID plenty. No worries there.

No it doesn’t get shared. I am sure if you did something insane or were in crash they might harvest that data and share it with the cops but I doubt when you turned the car in they called the highway patrol and said we had a guy running 76 on the freeway. They would be reporting 95% of the renters.

With alcohol I don’t think it gets shared either. They scan it to make sure it is real. Lots of underage people put a fake age on their DL but the data on the mag stripe will not match. Again think about how many people buy beer. Who or why would they report all of this to? Now if you bought beer and then ran over a bus full of nuns down the road and the clerk saw it on the news and remembered you they might dig into the DL scan otherwise no.

    How would it get shared?
    To whom?
The government? The same one that can't do anything with computers to save their life?
If you do something really bad, as in it makes it to the point where you are hearing the words "will the defendant please rise" then the records might get subpoena'd. But you are ####ed either way.
Also no one gives a #### about speeding in Socal, blasted by cops doing 75 and nothing ever happened. CHP is exceedingly chill, unless you are really ####ing up.

Yes the rental car company does capture information like that. It is their data to do as they wish. Would they alert the authorities? What good would it do, you rented the car, but who was driving it when the parameters were exceeded? You might pay them for "damage" irregardless of who was driving, but the info would be useless to anyone else. Now if you get to a serious enough situation to involve lawyers( accident with injuries etc.) all bets are off.
Similar thought for the D/L scan when buying alcohol. Making the purchase is not illegal, even for those of us with a CDL. Having it in the truck, or certainly consuming it within 10 hours of going on duty are two completely different matters. The devil is in the details.
I am not a lawyer, but I watch them on TV.
