I recently graduated from a CDL training program. Have a Class A CDL. I'm 20 years old. I can do a 15 minute pre-trip (kidding). Since I can't cross state lines till I'm 21 I'm looking for local jobs with a base near Salt Lake City. I would prefer to do tractor-trailers but would be ok with dump trucks because most local jobs I've been looking at are for construction. But from what I've read you need a class B for straight dump trucks, anyone know if that's right?
I don't want to wait 9 months till I'm 21 to go OTR and forget everything
Anyways anyone know of anything?

Class-A cdl is good for any class B job.
Household goods movers sometimes hire drivers under 21 yrs. old for intrastate driving.
Google : Household Goods Movers Salt Lake City, Utah
If all you can get is a Class-B job, take it. When you're 21, Prime Inc. in Salt Lake City will probably hire you and put you through their refresher course.
Some household goods movers will let you travel cross country, but you can't legally drive when you cross the Utah state line. You will be considered a "driver helper." That's better than nothing in my opinion; I would have enjoyed that when I was your age.Last edited: Sep 21, 2018

Here's one I found: notice it says, one yr. driving "preferred",; does not say "required."
Household Division is seeking Class “A&B” Drivers Full Time in our Salt Lake City, UT location. We are a moving and storage company that is looking to add outgoing / key people to our local team.
Drivers are local: and New Hire Bonus for CDL A Drivers
Duties include but are not limited to: move, pack, load and unload household goods items from homes, commercial locations and warehouses. Drive to and from point A to B while being part of the crew. Team work is a must! Reliable & dedicated person with motivation to succeed in a successful atmosphere is needed.

I Googled :
Suppliers Of Fertilizers & agricultural chemicals in Utah
and it shows 10 companies. Some companies like this, at least in other states, will hire CDL-A drivers that are under 21 yrs. old to deliver to farms & ranches and maybe spray fields.
Here's two of the ten:
Agronomics International
in Salt Lake City, Utah
Lesco, Inc.
in Salt Lake City, Utah

Always apply for the jobs you want, as you have preached here many times. Required experience = only what they want to have. It doesn't mean that's what they are going to get.Dan.S, towmantater and Outis Thank this. -
Most companies say they require experience, but let’s face it a majority of companies I know are pretty desperate for drivers

wouldn't a driver helper be only if you're doing team driving, "helping"? -

Fired from my dump truck job need to find something else don't have connections in the industry been to 5 interviews already but most places require you to be at least 21,22,23 and have 1-2+ yrs experience. I know it's a shot in the dark but anyone have advice or known of any companies?
