So my question about the late nite early morning appointments is if your driving during g the day.... How are you getting to a 1am 2am 3am appointment if ur 10 isn't up yet?

At times you park at the shipper...other times you stagger your drive to arrive on time for your appointment.

The 8/2 split sometimes is used as well, it’s a balancing act. There was a shipper in Maryland I used to go to (I’m not with Magnum any longer) where I’d get in by 10pm and bump the dock and go to bed. Sometime around 8 am they would finish and I’d get my paperwork. It doesn’t always work like that but you get the idea.

As the formal ELD mandate becomes universal expect changes to appointment times and how runs are completed. Getting a few numbers of veteran drivers will help you become successful faster and reduce frustration.

My concern is I'm the type of person who once I'm awake can't go back to bed easily. So I'd be up all day nmw. I dislike night driving but of it's all night driving I'd adjust, my things is if in "staggering" my driving like u say I might get less sleep than usual. I work reefer now, we keep our appointments I've never been late, but they range from 5am -8pm. Everyone in awhile there's a grocery warehouse that's 3am or midnight. But that's far and few between. I'm concerned this will make me dislike the job if my sleep schedule goes nuts. Like rn I don't exactly love my job but I do have a steady schedule somewhat, shut down between 4-8 wake up between 2-6 spend 30 minutes eating waking up and drive. It's a varying schedule but it isn't a huge change from day to day. Having wild changes in ur sleep times that vary more than 5 or 6 hours everyday is extremely bad for ur health and can cause issues that lead to high stress and is associated with early death.

Hopefully others will chime in, personally I can wake and return to sleep easily so it wasn’t anything I couldn’t deal with. Current drivers can give you a better idea of the appointment times, but with reefer you can count on the occasional Chicago to MN late afternoon into night with an AM appointment happening...

A couple weeks training should help you get in the swing. When I was with Magnum, I drove 95% of the time during the day. Delivery’s were a lot of 0200-0600 times. I would plan out each load to fit in breaks right. At times you won’t get proper rest but with good trip planning, and thinking ahead you’ll be ok. I always had time on the next load to fit in some good sleep after a load where I didn’t get good sleep because of a middle of night delivery time.
Now where I work it’s almost 100% daytime deliveries but I have to drive more evenings and into the night. Rarely after 0100... we park on site for most of our deliveries. It’s not a bad deal. But there is still planning involved.
    You will adjust

I know this is from way back + you don't work there anymore; it prevents me from starting a new thread on a question no one asked & anyone besides myself doesn't care to know.

Any opinions on why the side pieces only cover 2/3 instead of coming all the way to the frame rail?

I have seen this system installed on many trailers & I know that they are all like this.

Just don't see why the company building these units would cover the entire roof but only 2/3 of the side as opposed to Airtabs or trailer tails that effectively cover the entire box.

Maybe they use the same size piece as the top width to save money on different manufacturing size setups & the only difference is the locations of the cutout areas?

Be aware that these tend to obscure the rear clearance lights if installed improperly/damaged from docking.

They cover the area needed to smooth the airflow and reduce turbulence that would be present coming off of the end of the trailer, you can read a bit more here

When you consider the repair costs associated with the old tails and the fact that a number of drivers don’t open the tail in high winds and winter, these also provide more real world savings.

At what temp do you Magnum drivers idle overnight? Supposed to be 14 tonight in Hankinson ND and am thinking about letting the APU handle it. Talked to a TMC driver and their policy is “idle below 10 degrees”

This is my first winter in my 579. Prior to this I had a non APU equipped Cascadia and never really shut that thing down.

Figured I’d ask you guys as not many people know cold temps like you all do.
