I'm a bit confused, so maybe one of you old-timers can once again chime in. Starting on 11/6, my husband's pay went from .42c per mile to .40.

That .2 reduction is NOT for the program where they withhold a certain portion of your pay as untaxable and charge you the "administration" fee of .2, as he opted out of that incentive on day one.

This literally started midway through a run on 11/6 according to the work history / pay statements listed on Compass. He reported this to the DBL last week - who told him he'd "look into it".

Well, I'm also looking into it. I'm not trying to be a total dick here, but that's $50 a week at his current rate on average, or $200 a month shaved our of his pocket.

The only contact info I can find on Compass is for his DBL, who seems too busy to worry about .2 and HR issues. Is there a direct line into Payroll somewhere where they can look into this??

    Edit:

Other than that, we're 60+ days in to the whole OTR life - doing better. I can tell that there is less stress when he calls, and even though he's freezing his ### off in Denver currently, things are good everywhere else. :)

Did he switch to otr from another line (regional or dedicated)? That could be the reason why the .02 drop, different lines of business have different pay scales. DBL should know this. Husband needs to stay on DBL about this, if he hasn't received an answer.

If his dbl cannot or will not give him a straight answer by tomorrow, call the ops manager. If that doesn't work email Todd Jayden or Tammy Gruber (sp?). If you can't find their email address on compass, pm me and I will find it.

It may very well be his bonus payout changed. What was his score for 3rd quarter?

It was at a 3 when all was said and done.

I believe that @mindes has the most likely answer. He thought he was going to be western regional when he started, and ended up over in Oklahoma. When he asked about it, nothing was ever said to him other than, "Yeah, okay". It isn't something that even crossed my mind to think about.

He's been on the LA, Denver, Vegas area runs ever since, so I am betting it was a shift from 48 to regional. I know that a company wouldn't just decide out of nowhere to do something like that.

Just wish the communication was a bit better from the corporate side. I knew you guys would be able to point me in the right direction.

Why did he opt out of the per-diem? He can't take the standard meal allowance any more and it's the only way your going to save on taxes this year. This can add up to thousands of dollars.

I know he can't take the meal allowance, but over the long haul (pun intended) - this also has the effect of drastically reducing the amount of money the company contributes to Social Security, and also reduces his overall earnings on paper - affecting his annual income when it comes time to take out loans, etc, and reduces his pay by yet another .02c per mile - (in my mind, a ridiculous rate for what amounts to a one-time setup in the payroll software).

I have plenty of other ways to re-coup our tax dollars as I have a decent paying job and also work with clients on the side (lots of deductions to take there), and a dang good accountant. I would rather have his income show higher, find other deductions, and have the company contribute their fair share into his Social Security at the end of the day.
