You know guys, I have to deal with hiring people and they get a road test once they get passed the paper work process.
I have had some with 15 years experience who could not back in a dock worth anything, while I hired two guys who just got their CDL days before and put the truck right in with it being near perfect.
What I think some of you are doing is not blaming the driver for their lack of "training" is wrong but as a couple in this thread eluded, when they are told they can't do it, they actually learn to prove those people wrong.
I did that to one of those guys who got his CDL days before the road test I gave him, I told him months before when he first asked for a job that he can't do a thing to get a CDL and after he told me to ****** off and a few other things, he came back with a CDL and a willingness to learn. He is one very good driver, very professional and very open to taking criticism as a professional. The other guy now had his own truck after five years of driving for me, he is doing really well.
So this is what I mean with all that babble, too many drivers don't want to actually learn, they won't get out and see what is there - too lazy - they don't want to ask questions or learn how to figure out how to do something while a few think that they can handle it ALL and quite a few think they can't when they need to just get off their butts. -
Part of it is the hurry hurry syndrome. A new driver has to turn that off. It exists in other jobs as well.
And it also might mean (the horrors) of getting out of bed a lot earlier. To finish earlier. And not get defeated nightly by the last worst parking slot.
I have days I don’t back worth beans. That’s when the other days of patient learning pay off. Control any adrenaline shot.
53’s are new to me (started 1997). It’s been pretty funny when I don’t get it lined up right.
And when I’ve had to jacknife into the last spot I’ve been glad for someone else helping me watch the blind side.
There are those days you have to pull away from the attempt and go park it elsewhere. Take a breather. Until the anxiety subsides.
Now you know the real reason the fuel line backs up with parked trucks.Highway Sailor, Lepton1, tommymonza and 2 others Thank this. -
