Hi. I got my CDL last year but was unable use it. But now I'm ready to go work. I live in South Florida and need some advice on where i can find a job that allows me to be home everyday, i realize pay will be small but I'm ok with that. Can anyone suggest a company like that.
Thank you

If you got your CDL last year you may be required to take at least a refresher course, as you have been out of the game way too long.
And a new CDL holder wanting to be home everyday?
Good luck with that.
But I'm sure Chinatown will give you a dozen prospects, very soon. -
If you want to be home everyday why not toss cases? Having a CDL already helps get your foot in the door, and can actually make pretty great money if your body holds up.

Beer, soda, chips and related will get you home daily - after a long and labor intensive day. Most pay very little - but hey - you will get home. A few such jobs will pay you very well - but most of those will require overnight runs. You may get home every other day in other words.
Dump trucks, straight trucks, and chip haulers also can get you home daily too. -
LTL, food service, beer, frito lay and dump trucks.
Good luckFuelinmyveins and BigDog Trucker Thank this. -
Drive dump trucks. Home everyday ,good pay and its fun to do. For the most money look into paving companies. I live in maryland and starting pay is usually around $20 an hour or a percentage of what the truck makes per day. I have a class A but I like dump trucking because I'm home everyday with my kids and I love the work. Good luck and drive safely.
Solo Driver and Bluedew Thank this. -
Dump trucks are interesting and can be fun - and can certainly get you home every day. I took a job once that had advertised looking for a driver with a class A CDL... yet when I went in tot he office they were looking for a Triaxle dump truck driver who could occasionally pull a trailer with pipe or equipment on it. I decided to try it - and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable jobs I have ever had. Not the highest paying by far - but I was home every day, the work was fun (to me anyway), and the people I worked with were good people that enjoyed life. The company also paid overtime and always had extra work available for at least a half day every Saturday - though it was not mandatory. I usually took it because it was all OT for me and easy work.
To anyone considering dump trucks - do keep in mind though - that should you desire to go back into tractor trailers again - many trucking companies will not count your time driving dump trucks as current driving experience for tractor trailers. That means they may require you to take a refresher course and or consider you a trainee all over again regardless of how many actual years of driving experience you have. -
Dedicated accounts can pay you more and can get you home every day or at least every other day. You do have to be careful there though because most such jobs require close maneuvering and backing in very challenging spaces. If you hit anything, which is easy to do if your skills are not yet that great and if you do not pay close attention to what you are doing - the company will likely terminate your employment and report it to the next place you apply to. Also, you will unload freight and many drivers do not want to do that. Personally, I like the exercise - so long as the pay justifies the trouble. Many of those jobs will pay you between $60 - $80K plus per year to start. Is that enough? For some yes - for others no. The real questions to consider is can you handle it, and is it enough money for YOU or not?
