Last I understood he's lost interest in producing the truck. Likely got a bunch of money from the megas and some ridiculously huge grant from the government so now he'll move on to his next scheme.

Yea and everybody wonders how right? How many computer programmers do you know of will work on that if they're told they could be sued into oblivion, and that is what will happen.

I've got one of the new smaller/cheaper teslas and have autopilot. It was time for a new car and for the price of a car, I could get a better future of what the future looks like for short money. (I also have solar panels on our warehouse so the fuel is free). For reference, I've got a 5 truck fleet, and started out doing all the work and driving myself, and worked my way up. We're a HHG company so it's not the same as what alot of you guys do but none-the-less, I'm a class A CDL-holder, 15 years of fleet ownership and 18 years of driving.

Before I got into moving/trucking I was a computer programmer.

I've got about 1500 miles on the car so far, half on autopilot (the closest thing to self driving you can buy at this point). In that short time I've gone on a road trip and driven in snow and rain. It was worth the price of admission and I've learned a TON about both electric and the autonomous.

So what do you guys wanna know about it, ask away. The car's not a crystal ball, but it is a real thing a person can put their hands on and learn from.

Two things you need to know.
    1. Don’t watch Tucker Carlson....
    2. No one is making a driverless truck or car. They all require a driver. They all have driver assist features to allow hands free driving by the driver....but that is not a driverless truck or car.

We all will be dead and gone before driverless trucks will be plentiful enough to make any market impact. It will require a complete redesign of our whole transportation system.

1.Don't watch Carlson why, because he has a different opinion than you?
    2. You need to read a little more and use your critical thinking, everybody who's working on them is thinking no driver, they may not be there yet but that's their goal.

I just don't see that as a valid argument against autonomous with the amount of people being killed in accidents caused by inattentive humans or just plain human error.
I think will still see a body in the seat in autonomous trucks for a while yet if for nothing else to have a scapegoat for when things go wrong.

My preference is to stay with the facts. My point is that there are not driverless vehicles being made today! They have a self driving mode, but there are not driverless vehicles today....so lets stop calling them that, as they do not exist. Call it what it is......self driving mode......fact.

There may be such a vehicle in the future....no argument there.

Believing something to be true does not make it a fact....is that not critical thinking?

I am also concerned with robots and automation but more in the manufacturing, agricultural, food processing areas...and all other unskilled labor fields where they're affecting large portion of society that is resorting to trucking as one of the few options left. The very financial jump is substantial enough to allure those who have to work two jobs to provide for their families. This trend has been happening in the last 2 decades rapidly and will continue so. The path is simple: get CDL, get job, learn the ropes while you're saving up some money, become owner operator. So to remain successful, you will have to be very different from the mass, you need to specialize in what you do. Robots or not, the very big truck "driving" skill, won't be any skill at all - if it is not so already.

I don't believe anybody has said that driverless trucks are already here, the whole discussion is "are they on their way"?
