The water separator in the last few DD engines have had a red and green led on them. If excessive water is in the separator, the red led should be on.
The common rail fuel system is very susceptible to air leaks. A bad O ring can take the system down. It was said that squeaks and other odd noises. Check you filter housings and make sure they are sealed with the O ring.

Also, you can change all the filters st once. On the side of the filter housing is s small pump. Takes 350 pumps to prime / pressurize the system. Or you can get the female connector and make a primer from a garden sprayer.

Oh, guess I never replied to this topic as I got injured shorty after getting back on the road and lost tack of this.

I was in Laredo and still thought it was water in the fuel at that time. I drained the separator a few times and used that water evaporator stuff in the fuel. Tried to take the truck into the freightliner dealer in Laredo and they wouldn't even look at the truck for a week.

My road assist wanted me to try to drive it to our terminal which I knew it wouldn't make it that far but if I could get to a diffrent freightliner dealer then maybe that would be better.. ( I have zero good things to say about the freightliner in Laredo, the reviews speak for themselves as no one else has anything good to say either)

I started bob tailing out and made it about 30 or 40 miles before the truck comepletly died.. Sat on the roadside a lot of hours before getting a tow..

Now.. this is what really pissed me off with freightliner and I dont think I'll ever get another new one.. The warranty would only pay to tow me back to Laredo the place that wouldn't even look at my truck.. because it was the closest...

I ended up paying $1,200 to be towed to San Antonio to a diffrent freightliner but still owned by the same ########, however this one had eat least better reviews..

8 days later.... I got the truck back with dead batteries.. Had to charge them in the parking lot with my APU just to start the truck. They strung me along the entire 8 days telling oh yea it should be ready in the next day or two...

Anyway, 8 days in a hotel($800 and change for that), 10 days total being down because I had to wait 2 days at the Loves for someone to come get my loaded trailer and a $1,200 tow bill.. was not very happy to deal with this on a truck with 80k miles..

They replaced all the injectors and one of the fuel pumps and did a oil change.. all under warrenty so at least I got a free oil change.. but far as Im concerned freightliner warranty service is #### because their dealers are ####..

I got back on the road, was midway on my 2nd load after having all this happen and ended up in the emergency room 1st with elbow bursitis in Virginia. I finished off the load up to Hazelton with one arm, decided to sit for a few days at our terminal in Pittston, but my arm got worse. I went to get it checked out up there and they sent me back to the emergency room because it became infected.

Spent 3 days in the hospital drove the truck back to the terminal and had to turn it in because it was pretty clear I couldn't drive with one useable arm..

Was out for about 2 months and have been back on the road around 3 months now maybe a little longer.

I took a short lease (4 months) 2016 Cascadia and I turn it in the start of January.. This truck has been mostly trouble free aside from a few minor issues. It's a 10 speed though and compared to the auto the fuel milage is crap. The only saving grace for the 2018 was it had excellent fuel milage with the auto.
