Hi all, I am looking for input on what to do for a 01 Mack E7 that is rarely used. Driven less than 5K miles (400 hours) per year but it idles alot (used for dumpster roll-off) 12 miles/hr average.
Oil analysis shows a small coolant leak according to blackstone oil lab.
My question is; is it worth doing any expensive repair/diagnostic work if the truck will work at this rate for a few more years? Or do more frequent oil changes (say every 125 hrs) and create a baseline for the oil analysis to monitor? I am looking for your thoughts and thank you!

A lot of left out info where nobody can decide for you.
What would you like to do with truck?
Even if motor was on last leg (which it doesn’t sound like it is) that low of hours isn’t gonna help. Maybe 300 hours would be a better option. Find the source of the coolant leak and fix it. Rest of the motor still probably has a lengthy life. Fix the motor if the rest of the truck is solid and making you money

I'd add some radiator stop leak to it & keep up with the analysis.

Don’t put that crap in there! I have been told this is common on those engines. Most of the time it’s the bottom of the liner that weeps. I would drop the service intervals and keep an eye on it.

    Rideandrepair and Tb0n3 Thank this.
