Why Don’t Mega Fleets Buy Off-Road Fuel?

The refrigerated mega fleet I used to belong to did not use off-road fuel for their reefer trailers. I am guessing that they don’t buy it because their fuel discounts are lower than off-road diesel, and also because major truck stop chains do not offer it at the pumps.

Their drivers screw up diesel in the def tank and vice versa. You really want them to mess them up even more?

I don't buy it because it isn't readily available. This time of year, I only run Canadian diesel in the reefer. Preferably from Saskatchewan. Should I need to pull some fuel out to prime a fuel filter when not near a pump, I could pull it from the reefer as well. Truck has anti syphon screens so unless it's full not getting it from there.

There is also a form you can fill out to claim the ifta portion paid on your reefer fuel back. Making the net difference the same.

We all buy "off road" fuel essentially. At the end of the year you report all gallons used for "off road" applications (APU,REEFER,GENERATOR,ETC.) and you get the road tax credited back to you.

    PE_T and Rideandrepair Thank this.

when the pump asks for reefer or tractor fuel the reefer fuel taxes are refunded to the company so it's basically untaxed but undied. ..... government does check things out to curtail chea ting
