I travel with my husband and we have a Thermo King 41-8744 Inverter installed. It runs everything from a 1000W shop vac to microwave, to TV. However — cause I’m a little vain — I have two hair appliances that it absolutely will not run. One is a curling iron that heats up but also has a rotating barrel inside the unit. This appliance runs the barrel but will not heat up. The wattage 120v. It says it uses alternating current on 60 Hz. Not sure why this works at home and not in truck. Also this is a new appliance — not old. Any suggestions?
Thanks to those who respond and don’t laugh at my vanity!!

That unit 41-8744 is a 1800 Watt Power inverter, but since its a Thermo King according to Google it has a safety feature in it that protects against Over Heating and the only thing I can think of is that when you use the curling iron it will produce too much heat and the safety feature will kick in.. kinda like a GFCI in a bathroom... Can't be the watts cause I have a 2000 Watt Power inverter in my truck and I use a fan, tv, Playstation 4, cell phone chargers, microwave, etc in my truck...Anybody else wanna chime in??

Thank you for your response. I’m not sure overheating would be a problem since it won’t even heat up to begin with! #### thing.

It's not too likely to be a wattage issue, but the A number would be multiplied by the voltage (120V) to get the wattage. It's possible that, being a higher end appliance, there's circuitry inside that powers the heating element that just doesn't like the type of output your inverter uses. It's pretty rare, but some devices just won't work on the typical modified sine wave that most inverters use.
tommymonza, magoo68, Krkapotts and 2 others Thank this. -
I also think your right about that sine wave thing

Thank you for your response. After hours (and days!) of reading I found out the same thing on the sine wave thing.

It is a Infiniti Pro by Conair Curl Secret 2. Not too expensive of a gadget but apparently too much for the inverter!!
