Leaking (From Exhaust) Leveling Valve

    I picked up an empty trailer yesterday in Idaho. Loaded this morning. I notice now that I’m heavy, there is a little air constantly coming from the exhaust port hose on the leveling valve

    The trailer is riding at proper height. Has been well below freezing since I’ve had the trailer and I’m thinking POSSIBLY there is a frozen water issue inside the valve. Or the valve is just defective.

    Problem is it may be well into the weekend before temp rises above freezing, if it ever does. (Going to Buffalo) to see if the issue clears up.

    Moisture (frozen) is just not an issue we ever see in our equipment but I can’t rule it out. I’m trying to think of an easy way to warm the valve for a half hour or so without burning down the truck or melting air lines. I suppose I could disassemble and remove and sleep with it.

    I’m also considering air line antifreeze but I’m really hesitant to use something that may not work (may not be an ice issue) and may cause more problems.

    It’s not an issue except for causing the dryer to cycle every 2.5 minutes.

    Thoughts? Thoughts about air line antifreeze useage in a trailer system with air bags and other sensitive components?

    I’m planning on running it by a Great Dane dealer in Cheyenne tomorrow but hope it doesn’t turn out to be an ice issue but it is, I’d like to get it dealt with ASAP

    Does it look fairly new? Might have been changed out and lines hooked up wrong.
    Wiggle the arm where it comes out of the valve. If it changes the sound,valve is worn out.

    All of our stuff is fairly new. This trailer is an 18 put in service about 12 months ago. All looks like original equipment

    However that said. I did “try and move the still attached arm” again, this time the leak stopped and oddly enough, the bag pressure gauge now registers (it didn’t show any different after I loaded this morning. It showed as if I was empty). I’ll just write all this off as “cold gremlins” for now and keep my fingers crossed and see about getting another load to Maui.

    I’ll ask the shop tomorrow (if it acts up again) and it’s still well below freezing if they recommend antifreeze and if so what kind and how to administer.

    Well if you plan to get it looked at tomorrow, you may have to live with it.
    If it’s ice and you dump the bags they may not air back up.

    Use a hair dryer and wrap it in towels to hold in the heat. It will warm up and any ice inside will melt. I keep a hair dryer in the truck for such occasions. It gets very hot on the hi setting. I also use it to peal labels, placards and logos off. No scraping.

    I thought about that but would have to buy a 100 foot extension cord to run off of the inverter and wasn’t really sure it would power it especially across that length of cord.

    But it’s not leaking any more for now

    And based on the tiny bit of movement of the arm that caused the leak to stop, I’m leaning towards a faulty valve that doesn’t like cold. I expect it may act up again once I get rolling tomorrow. If so, it will probably do so early and I can get it replaced up the road in Cheyenne

    Airline antifreeze. Fifteen min. Tap valve lightly with hammer.
