Oilfield work with spouse
My wife has a CDL but took up driving a bus and has no big rig experience. I’ve been out of the industry for 7 years but kept my license. We are thinking of Oil field work.
Any couples do oil field work together?
With the free housing some offer do you think we each get a room. Would be nice to have a 2 bedroom to ourselves.
How are women treated in the field? When I did fuel delivery women in the industry were respected or the other guys would get on the jerks. Same with oil field?
How physical is the jobs?
What type of position should we be looking for?
What is the schedule like for a new hire?
What companies fly you home on your days off like Schlumberger?
We are open to going anywhere not just Texas. Where do you recommend going.
We won’t be doing anything till spring so we have time to research.
From those doing it. Any advice?

Most free housing I’ve seen is in a man camp, apartment, or trailer type deal. Some companies give a housing allowance rather than providing housing. Some don’t give anything.
As far as flying there and back all I know of is Schlumberger and possibly Halliburton.
As far as how physical the work is that honestly depends on the job. Water hauling for instance isn’t so bad as long as you can drag a hose. Flatbed is flatbed. Winch trucks might be a little more physical but I haven’t done that, yet. Learning to drive off road is probably harder than most entry level driving jobs.
Non driving jobs that might require a CDL such as operating/driving a workover rig ( currently on a rig). This particular job is extremely physical and you are in the elements any day you’re working. I’ve been here a few months and have already watched people come and go.
As far as what you should be looking for, that’s up to you two honestly. Idk about Texas but in the Bakken it’s very very easy to get a job with a CDL and little driving experience. Probably the easiest to start in water hauling if you wanna pull tankers, seems like they always need people.
On the treatment of women. Well, it’s like anything else I’ve seen. Some people are civil, some are rude. The patch is a no frills, no sensitive cry babies work place. So, I would assume she would be treated like anyone else.
If you can handle a fairly brutal winter I say come to ND. Now hiring signs on every corner in Williston. That’s fairly literal lol. -
West Tx is booming. When I left there last October I saw several new housing projects going in. I guess you could call em mini motel type places. This was around Pecos , Odessa area . Several new gas plants going up and adding on to existing ones. I did LPG out there and its pretty clean compared to other gigs there.
If you go there, be prepared for life on the Moon because there aint #### out there - Good LUckIluvCATS Thanks this. -
Sounds like an adventure for your marriage! Go for it

Halliburton only covers travel for certain locations.

Some companies would have you live in the truck. With two in a truck, there's no need to come back to the yard until you both run out of hours. More $$$$ potential coming back for a 24 hour reset once a week.

Thanks for the input.

Come run Tx. We have our own HOS and an oilfield exemption. There's money in sand, crude, dirt and flatbed. With little experience, you'll get started hauling water, but they'll move you up quick.
If your wife is good lookin, she's gonna get hit on and it isnt always gonna be the most pleasant of ways lol. If she cant handle ######## who talk too much ####, usually drink and party too much (oilfield guys, not drivers) its probably not gonna be enjoyable to her. -
She is good, I'd be the one with a problem. It's having to dig the hole that bothers me not tossing something in it. To much work.
