My loads are light enough I never have to slide my fifth-wheel and I bet once you get yours where you like it you won't be sliding yours.
Some-times I pull a 45 ft. moving van and I have to slide the fifth-wheel all the way back to keep the mud-flap brackets from hitting when I turn.
Does your truck have a load pressure guage?

I don't know. There's a couple PSI guages, but I think it's primary and secondary. What would it tell me if it has one? -
It would be a seperate psi guage probably goes in increments of 25 psi at a time. It helps you judge the weight on your drive axle. I bet your truck has one. Some do some don't.

The site is a bit sluggish right now... if you hit submit again to push it along it probably did it. I've done it before.
I'll take some pics tomorrow and will get the dash. There's a couple things I have questions about, particularly a couple cables/connections that don't seem to go anywhere. One is a slinky cord under the passenger seat with a phone charger looking end on it that's just laying there. Another is a 12V plugin on a LONG wire that leads under the bunk, not sure what that is either. Lights up when you plug it in but I don't hear anything. -
The load guage will help you once you get a feel for it. I hope your truck has one. I am going to log off for the night. I don't have enough post or I would pm you my cell phone#. I might be able to answer some questions once you get out on the road.

the load gauge is for the air bags your truck might not have one, but i would bet the trailer that you get will if it has air suspension. on my father in laws it it right behind the sleeper. now this is on a 1993 freight liner it is just a psi guage plumbed into the air bag air system it will show about 20 when you are empty and on ours it shows just a little over 60 when we have about 34000 on tractor tandems. on the trailer dependeing on make thier will be a little box between the hoppers and inside it should ave a switch that should say laod and empty or fill and dump not sure on that, and a pressure gauge it will show a low number when empty but should so around 60 when loaded. the valve switch is is called a dump switch and you want to make sure that it is flipped to load or fill when you ar loading it causes the air bags to fill as wieght is put on them and dump when you are emtying out or the air bags will get really tight . if you do have the gauge on trailer make sur to note what the pressure reading is after you have the load weight that you want (usually a full 80,000 pounds) and then the next time you laod it will be easier for you to dteremine how much wieght you have on. they help take all the guess work out of loading to get the maxium bushels or tonnage since that is usually how you are paid especially for grains and grain products.
you can get by with one but once you see how it helps you will want to get one for the tractor too. should cost to much to have one installed. and they will save you a lot of trips back to the loading area from the scales to add on. if you are hauling grain from elevators you will understand this when you get to the old ones that were built for the farmers straight trucks. we have a lot of them around here and they can be a pain but most of the guys that work there are freindly and are easy to get along with. Also if you do start hauling a regular route where you are going to the same places to load and unload remember be freinds with them because if you piss them off and make them dislike you they will remeber you and make your day go downhill real fast.
