Hi all, I’m a Florida resident. I have my medical certificate, and have passed the general knowledge, air-brakes, and combinations tests at the DMV. Only today was I told I need to schedule a driving test up in Miami to actually be issued the permit!
Anyone here familiar with the process in Florida? Is this a newbie DMV employee’s misinformation? I thought the whole idea was to get a permit so I can *learn* to drive a truck.
I’m sweating it a little, because my intention was to go to a school orientation tomorrow with a fresh permit in hand.
Thanks for any input.

A permit is issued so you can learn to drive. How could you be expected to pass a driving test at that point? I think someone is pulling your leg? Call the dmv and ask them.
CrappieJunkie and LateNightCable Thank this. -
you need to permit to learn to drive....then when your school says you're ready, you then take that permit with you, to the DMV test site, for the examiner to confirm everything, and proceed with the road test, skills test, and pre-trip tests, and brake tests. (in what ever order they do all that in)LateNightCable Thanks this. -
Thanks for the help guys. I’m definitely calling someone at another location to get the real scoop.
When I heard that, I immediately felt it was a case of putting the cart before the horse. I will update! -
Sure enough it’s nonsense. I called someone at another DMV location who knows what they’re talking about and was told I should be issued a permit - no road test required. And that I should call them if I have trouble.
That sure is a relief to me!buddyd157 Thanks this. -

If you don't mind sharing; which school will you attend?

I plan to study and test for X and T endorsements between now and when my class begins on January 8th.
Almost forgot, I picked up my permit an hour ago!Last edited: Dec 17, 2018
