Whenever I have a customer with a load needing picked in California, it’s very difficult to find legit carriers.

Every single time there will be a company call, everything sounds great, we get setup, they accept the load, then boom it’s time to do their job and it gets weird. Driver phone numbers won’t work. They won’t accept macropoint. Can’t give you an idea of eta or exactly the status of the truck, etc etc. Yet they assure you everything is great and won’t be long until they are over to pickup.

I even had one company complete a load before I became wise to what was going on. Thank God we figured it out before it was too late payment wise. It got there fine but the required paperwork was messed up. Long story short they insisted they delivered it themselves but couldn’t prove it to me and their name was nowhere on the receiver logs. I ended up telling the guy I know he’s full of #### and until he tells me the truth I’m not going to pay out a #### thing. They never even sent an invoice because it was all bogus and even had a fake factoring company front. If I paid them they wouldn’t have paid the actual carrier who then could or would have gone after my customer meaning double payment on a $5000 load. So now I’m stuck holding the money waiting for this screwed carrier who I can’t find, to contact me. They are out there and thankfully I caught it, but they don’t even know who owned the load so can’t find me.

Anyway, it’s EVERY SINGLE TIME out of Cali. Had two loads today and same bs. Why is this?!? I don’t have nearly the trouble in the Midwest where we do most of our business.

It’s gotten so bad we now require being able to talk to the driver, driver accepting macro, shipper checking drivers truck for proper name and mc, and confirming drivers name/identity. Freakin ridiculous!

We only broker 5 to 10 loads a week and are primarily an 8 to 10 truck carrier. So I’m curious if this happens to others and what you do about it? Seeing both sides broker and carrier is an eye opener and never ceases to amaze me how shady people can be on both sides.

Also a problem, people trying to combine loads, even if it’s reefer! What the....?

Sorry to hear this. But believe me. This isn’t just an issue for you as a broker. This type of fraud is rampant on the west coast. In nearly every line of work.

We contracted a towing company that didn’t own a single #### tow truck!! They lasted until they got busted subbing the work out. They only got caught then because their sub picked the wrong driver to F with.

Animals act better than a lot of human beings.........

Midwest Trucker- You have to be more strict on whom you load out......

Use carriers with an MC 600 series or lower- The Risks will be greatly reduced- AND.....Watch the Tonality in their voices-Whether you deal with a dispatch or the driver.

Unbelievable. I wish CA would use their resources to combat this fraud rather then do whatever the hell it is they do out there. We may talk a little slower out here in the fly over states but we’re not stupid.

Hahaha I love Fn with these people. They hear my accent, and immediately assume I’m stupid. I let them take as much line as they want. Then snatch it ;) They never see it coming.

You can just give up on them ever changing. They’re all special needs and Jerry’s Kid here now.

That whole only use low mc # works ok, until you remember now they are now recycling old mc#s.... may want to go by usdot#. Those just keep going higher.

And hey now... I am mc 79x,xxx..usdot 2,32w,xyz...and I'm one of the best produce/reefer haulers out here. I fired up my authority August 1, 2012. I don't generally care for California though. When I do go I just load for one of my regular folks who I am sure is the direct line to the buyer back at home (buyer in Canada pays freight usually). They know me and how good I am. No screwing around by either party.

What about when brokers do it? Double broker or co-broker?
