Sitting at a red light do you wait in neutral or in gear?

Supposed to be in gear. If you can see the opposing lights, you might be able to slip it to neutral and judge when your light might be turning green next and start getting back in gear just before the green so you can roll without delaying all the traffic behind you to wait another light cycle.

The only time the clutch goes to the floor is when you're fully stopped. I downshift to low range, then I push the clutch far enough to engage it and slowly go down to the next gear and then the next. Rolling into gear. Don't grind it.
On hard stops I have one foot on the brake one on the gas. Downshifting while still applying the brake. -
Is it a fresh red light.....I go to neutral to wait for the yellow on the cross traffic, then I get into gear.
Is it a stale red light....I am creeping up to the light so I dont have to stop......if I do have to stop, it should be a short wait, and I will stay in gear.scottied67 Thanks this. -
So I have a question on this topic. I'm driving about 35-40 through town. As I'm coming up to a traffic light the car passing me on the left whips over in front of me just as the light turns yellow. I would probably blow the caution light, but the car of course slams the brakes. I know this isnt technically right, but I shove it in neutral and slam the brakes. Never rear ended anyone yet. How do you clutch and down shift properly in a situation like that with only seconds to respond.
