All I can say is they either underestimated or measured numbers different in the past or they are today.
Because every E9 500 Mack V8 I ever drove with a "rated" torque of 1660 would run away from these new 1850 and 2050 torque motors in the hills today.
Same with what I do now with the dump truck and pony at 140,000 pounds gross. I travel up and down 8, 10 and 12% hills here and my old E6 350 Mack ( at what? 1100 to 1200 lb-ft) would pull the same gear and do almost the same speed as my new DD15 505/1650.
The time difference on a 346 mile trip is less than 25 minutes quicker with new big power than the old 350 Mack.
Same with these new diesel pickups. I drive them. I have a hard time believing they have the claimed 900 lb-ft torque.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
Midnight Blue metal flake or Blue Pearl

For what its worth the 290 is 855 cu vs 672. I'd put money on the 290 over the 300 mack especially if it had a 13 or 5X4. -

I like their ecoboost line up tho -
All the chassis cab and medium duties are derated from their pickup truck counterparts that use the same engine. They do this due to the harder duty cycles and to meet the emissions in those cycles.
While I've never had much luck with the 6.0L Powerstroke or the new 6.7, I've driven all brands and used them to deliver travel trailers commercially and I can say Ford does have the best chassis for towing and hauling.
