By MM 148 or 149, "best in class" made it back over to the right lane, and everyone in the hammer lane lived happily ever after..............

In my opinion, Sunflower is the one in the wrong in that situation. He could have backed out of the throttle and let Swift come on around. That's just being courteous.

Are you serious? It took Swift 5 miles to pass from the moment Winchester got behind him. Who knows how long it took him (Swift) to get even with Sunflower. All said and done, this was a maneuver that lasted for every bit of 8 or 10 miles most likely.

Swift could have easily backed out of it the 1/4 mph he's got on Sunflower and never entered the left lane. Many states have laws against tying up the left lane for that long. In Illinois you're not supposed to be in the left lane for more than 1 mile. It's a seldom enforced law, but it's a law nonetheless.

You can be cited for impeding traffic if you're... well, impeding traffic. In Michigan, it's a small fine and 0 points on your license. And, apparently it doesn't disqualify you from being insured by big trucking companies.

Go ahead, ask me how I know...:biggrin_255:

Sunflower, Shaffer, should have backed out of it, I do it all the time for Swift and JB.

They're both in the wrong. Again though, I wonder just what the guy creeping by really thinks he is gaining. Even if he was behind the 'slower' truck for 11 straight hours he would probably only lose a minute or two of time.

Seriously, why would Swift even attempt to pass?

I agree Sunflower should have backed off, out of courtesy.

we are all victims of the industry right now, they care more about their bottom line than the drivers. So we all need to try and work together to get the job done.Totally agree with you driver and more road etiquette is not that difficult.:biggrin_25511:

Wow, This thread makes law makers seem fairly smart. If your are not moving 10 mph faster in CA it is illegal to pull and pass . The purpose of the law is to keep drivers that do not or can not make good descision from getting into this spot.

When you jump into the hyperspace lane passing becomes your responsibility, I see no reason for me to take my foot out of the throttle to let you pass. Like Danc649u, in CA I normally run down the road at 80,000. I am loaded on a scale and they get us as close as possible. In Nv 92,500. So when your empty dry van has trouble getting around me, I may not care much. I do not pass unless I have enough ground speed to get around with in a mile or less, unless you speed up. If you are a driver that likes to speed up when passed, please excuse the leaking urnial lines on the right side of my cab.

What are you guys nuts. If you dont have the speed or power don't jump out there. Why should another driver back off because your a jerk. If you cannot pass with a mile drop back in. Maybe the guy your trying to pass is actually loaded to gross. If you make bad decisions, you can not get away with say in the old days he would have backed off, Well Im an older driver and it is simply not true. We never expected a heavy truck to back out for a light truck to get around.

Bottom line you pull inot the passing lane #1 When it clear for enought distance for you to complete your pass without obstructing traffic. #2 When your actually moving faster than the other truck. #3 Never when you make someelse slam on there brakes because you want to be a jerk and pass when you physically can't get the job done (your not at home, we are not your wife) If you cant get it done stay put.
