Another update,
I had my interview with USF Holland yesterday. It sounds like a pretty good gig (after training) and you play all the union games with the boards to be able to get a choice run. Oh, and not sure I'd be happy about the slip seating situation. It is also a work the dock for 30 days while going to a trucking school or after school. (which I don't mind the dock part) but also a 2 year commitment which I'm not a fan of. I have a former co-worker that works in the office there and had a chance to talk with her. She, in not so many words, told me that there is a ton of drama going on such as a lawsuit with the dock workers. She also said the union (teamsters) could be a good or a bad thing, just depends on if you play the game or not.
So in conclusion, I'm of the opinion that I am going to take the R.E. West job. It seems to be whats best for me right now. Small company, CDL class of 4-8 people (4 start at a time) which would mean more one on one learning/teaching. I got a good vibe when I was there from everyone I met and the fact that theres not all of this other drama going on while I'm trying to learn everything I can is certainly a plus. I will start training at the beginning of Feb. when my current job ends and will update as it progresses.
@Chinatown Thanks for the input, I never heard from @tscottme but would still like the scoop on Averitt for future reference if anyone has any. Thanks and see ya out there soon! Safe Travels!BlueThunderr, Rugerfan, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
Is the Holland terminal in Goodlettsville?
Your friend is right about the constant drama. I was in the Teamsters a short while and didn't fit in too well because it was like watching a soap opera on television. The drivers kept their cell phones hot constantly calling each other for the latest gossip and griping about the least little thing. The benefits are good if you can manage to keep yourself above the fray and not gradually get sucked into all that and become part of the problem.
You can go there later if you decide to and not have to go through the dock to driver program and be stuck in the middle of all that. Go right in as a driver and get on the road alone.drumchaos Thanks this. -

I have a little bit of a head start as I currently drive OTR regionally in a non-CDL straight truck. Still have to hit the weigh stations, elds etc. (yep right now I’m one of the guys you hate to see at the pump..lol but on the bright it doesn’t take long and I actually pull up when I’m done. HaHa)BlueThunderr Thanks this.
