I'm currently working in Jacksonville, FL. Working on getting my endoursments and possibly buying a truck to lease out with a carrier. I do not want to go OTR. Need some advice:
Is it worth it or should I shoot to just be a company driver with an LTL company. Have a family and im the only source of income. I have had my CDL for 5 years and been working with beverage companies the whole time. I need to make more money , thanks !

Cardinal Logistics may have what you want. They'll help you buy a truck.
Good luck on being an owner-operator. > Apply On Company Site

If my goal was to be home daily. I wouldn’t buy a truck. There are too many companies that offer decent pay in Florida. As opposed to having to hand out your life savings to simply get started.

My personal opinion, and only that. My experience as OTR and Regional has always been, there’s nothing worth my time in Florida to pull out of there. Rates going in are great. Out, not so great.

The local scene may be vastly different. I wouldn’t know.

www.OOIDA.com is a business website for the owner-operator that owns one truck or a small fleet.
An owner-operator is a small business owner. You have to run it like a business.

You said you are currently in Jacksonville, which implies you and your family have lived elsewhere. If you and your family where willing to relocate, where would you be willing to move?

I ask this question, because there might be more lucrative areas to move, make more money, and be home every day. One example is Oklahoma. If you are willing to run a little bit of off road, buying a truck that's more sturdy to handle the bumps, etc., you can easily lease on with a company hauling sand or cement to the oilfield. There's also tanker hauling crude or chemicals. You could also consider flatbed, although that would have the greatest possibility of missing a few nights at home if you get a fat dispatch running drilling motors up to North Dakota.

O/O's in oilfield typically target $1000 a day for gross revenue. More if you haul hazmat or oversized.

Let us know where your family might consider moving. Then we can provide better advice. Jacksonville is a nice place to live, but it's a bit expensive (Oklahoma is cheap by comparison). If you all are wide open regarding your place of abode, then your opportunities for maximizing income and minimizing expenses will be really good.
