I'm looking to buy a truckers GPS anyone have positive or negatives about brands/models etc?
Yes I know they are only one tool in the tool box, and Yes I have the RM Road Atlas, and Yes I know I can google earth the PU/Del locations, I just want one that will give me good general directions. My non trucking one had me in a residential area last week in North Logan, and then on a dead end street in Denver.
I'm thinking of the Garmin Dezl 780?
    Thanks in advance.

I used rand for a breif time.

It missed the turn off to the freeway and routed me around in circles through neighborhood streets trying to get back to that freeway. Had to use google. It was dark and the turn off was around the hillside. Had no idea it was even there. Rand directions were to keep going straight untill it got lost in the neighborhoods.

Everybody is going to have their own negatives and positives towards every brand. And NONE of the brands are perfect.

If I recall correctly from the last tread of this. The RM has better maps, & truck related locations. The Garmin Dezl has better hardware that won't crash as often. Pick your poison..

I have a dezl & one of the most annoying things mine does is say your heading I75 south bound & pull off for fuel. When getting back on highway, it will sometimes try & route you I75 north back to the last exit, have you exit & then re-enter to resume I75 south bound once again. Annoying to say the least. Whichever one you get, just remember to never follow it blindly..

I have used (and still use) a RM but also have used a Garmin. It's all about what you prefer.

    - The RM in more intuitive, but yet more cranky about routing when you miss/or don't make the turn it wants.
    - I prefer the 7" over the 5 cause well, I'm old and it's easier on the eyes.

But yes this is a subject that has been beaten more ways to Sunday. So if you use the search option you can find the answer you seek (or not)

Yea I looked at the others threads and as is typical they’re peppered with a bunch of idiotic responses, I’m a 3 miilion miler and have gone from mud maps literally drawn in the dirt back in Oz to the laminiRN Atlas, I’m just looking for respectful genuine input as to which GPS is currently topping the list.
    Thanks

I have been pretty happy with my RM 510. If you go to Rand Mcnalleys web site you can save quite a bit on a refurbished unit
