This how I see things when I’m out there. I know for a fact that as a commercial driver, if I rear end somebody the heat will be on me. It will be my fault until proven otherwise. I also know that if I get rear ended I will have a fighting chance. I know this because I have been rear ended twice and I was set clear both times. No mus no fuss.
When the visibility goes down and pulling over to a safe spot is not an option, I slow it down to a speed where if I see something in front of me, I can stop safely and not hit it. My forward speed is directly proportional to how fast I can step on the breaks. In other words, I make sure I’m not the one doing the hitting. I believe that goes under the philosophy of don’t hit anything.

I'm sorry, but racing the clock is no excuse to drive through stuff you know you should stay out of. And yeah, it's really gonna suck trying to dig out of this hole financially, but that's better than trying to dig out of the financial hole created when you wreck your truck. It's just a job, not a contest.
There are things I'd love to change about the HOS. For example, I think the 14-hour rule is stupid, and I don't see why I can't take two 15-minute breaks every 8 hours instead of one 30-minute break. But HOS is not a good excuse for driving too fast for conditions.Cam Roberts and tommymonza Thank this. -

Beat tired beyond tired. Backed into another trailer at a grocery depot , 10 grand later

That driver is the very reason when the weather is bad I just park close to beer and a good steak.
It was 100% his fault. You never drive faster than what you can stop. Blaming the cops is lame. They probably would have appreciated not getting run over by a so called "proffesional truck driver".
