Yeah, totally aced the pre-trip(thanks LeftyInTX), aced the maneuver test, then got about halfway through the road test and hit a pedestrian crossing sign that was real close to the edge of the curb.
A car pulled out of the gas station next to the turn while I was already committed to the turn, and I had to cut the wheel sharper than I originally intended when entering the turn. I should have just stopped, but I tried to cut it anyways. I was so focused on his car that I didn't even see the sign there.:(

Now I have a ticket for "turning when unsafe". The damage is minimal. I think the company is just going to pay for it without going through insurance.
I'm worried about the ticket going on my record. Can I call a lawyer and see if he can get it taken off my record, or does it not work like that with a commercial vehicle citation?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

The guy at the mechanic shop next to the sign told me not to feel bad, someone takes that same sign out about once a month. He said as soon as they put it up, it get's taken out again.
I still feel like a complete failure. Who gets into an accident on their CDL test???:(

Did you learn anything? Did you figure out what you did wrong? Yes and yes?

    Today was a good day.

I'm sure it doesnt happen too often, but keep your chin up man. Everything is gonna be ok. So what did the instructor say to you once you hit the sign before they failed you?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Oh yeah, I learned a lot.

I didn't even ask if I passed after I hit the sign lol...she just called the DPS officer over and handled the situation.
The supervisor came out and told me to just go online and reschedule a road test. I said "that's it? I'm not banned from coming back or anything?" and she said "nope" and smiled.
The DPS officer was also really nice. Told me not to let this hold me back and to get right back at it and get my license.

I'm just concerned about the citation being on my record though. How will that affect me?

Well it just happened so you haven't paid the fine yet and it hasn't went on your record yet... try to a job fast before anything happens... if a lawyer can't get it taken off then itll go on there... probably wont affect you too much but always good to be prepared

    Better call Saul.

All jokes aside you can probably still get hired if it goes on your record.

    That was bad luck.
Once you get your cdl and you’re by yourself never look in the mirror when you make a turn that way you’ll never knowingly hit a sign or anything again.
