That's something I'm proud to say for myself. My dad and granddad had me under hoods from the time I was walking lol. My granddads favorite saying was no matter what you own, if you make your living with it you need to know how to fix it.

Understood. Then the answer is; no, I do not think the engine exemption will go away. The changes that you mentioned, some were clarification of the exemption, which made it better, and others had nothing to do with the exemptions that were written in the mandate.

One way to look at it... Have any date based exemptions on truck parts ever went away?
No ABS is still allowed if the truck is older than 1997 for example.
No,what will happen is in a few years the only trucks that are older than 2000 will be show trucks. Everything else will have simply worn out and died off in due time.

I mean what, there are (yes a WAG) less than 2% of trucks out there now ELD exempt for the year of the truck? In any case it's not really enough for lawmakers to care about.

They should do a “Cash for clunkers” for the old junkers

Great idea, I will give you 3500 bucks for any pre 2000 truck you bring me that has a good motor.

In all honesty, the cash for clunkers was terrible! It removed a large amount of decent cars from people who could afford them, and made them take on debt in order to have a reliable car. It also kept engines from salvage yards, eliminating a source of income for those companies.

It was not a terrible idea.
It was totally necessary to help shore up our crippled economy back then.
It put people back to work which is what it’s main purpose was.
And I know that I’m the only person that remembers how bad the 2008 Recession was.
    (It was bad)

It’s a deal, but they’ll be ran through the shredder first.
You could always melt them down and make paper weights.
I want one that looks like a duck with big feet and a huge beak.

That would not be a good working motor you wouldn't get a dollar from me.
