Where does one find the weep hole on the water pump? I have coolant in my oil and the local shop thinks it’s the water pump. The Cat # is 135 4918. Do these pumps leak internally? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

I am not sure about the 3406, but I had several C-12's and they all leaked internally when the pump seal failed.

I believe all cat water pumps are close to same design but not 100 percent sure. I just changed mine out on my c12. I couldn’t even find my weep hole. The hole was plugged up with debri and sludge when I removed it. The new water pump from cat came with an information sheet on the pump and said that the “weephole will possibly drip from time to time and was designed to do as such” it gave more info on why. It went on to explain that if it leaves a puddle then there is a problem. Cat also left an instruction sheet on how to refill the system to ensure no air pockets

Ok, just trying stay away from throwing parts at it. Would hate to put a new water pump on and then realize that it’s liner o-rings. I have a 3406b and a C-15 Acert and both of those engines have a external weep holes.

Unfortunately unless you open up the engine a bit you will just be tossing parts at it.

Are you getting oil in the coolant at all? If not, I'd lean away from the oil cooler since oil pressure is greater than coolant pressure. The spots I'd suspect most would be pitted liners, liner seals, water pump, possibly a head/headgasket issue.

No oil in the coolant that I can see, and doesn’t smoke white when running so I’m assuming it’s not the oil cooler or head gasket. In the morning I’m gonna pull the pan and do a coolant pressure test to see if any liners are bad.

If there is a weep hole. It will be on the very bottom centered pretty much, will probably have a piece of foam in the hole acting as a catch, to absorb minor weeping. Originally they all had them. Don’t know about possible upgraded type you have.

Maybe that’s what was in mine. The new one is at very bottom like you said with a clear through hole

Yes water pump will leak into oil.
Not all 3406 C15nz are the same.
    I did this last year
