When I had my 3406C in 1997 or 98 I had a water pump installed. They supposedly had fixed the problematic occasional weeping problem they had at the time. The new and improved pump had the little piece of foam in the hole. They accidentally put a 3406 E ( wrong)water pump on . The gears weren’t engaging. They put thermostats on ( for free) before they figured it out.Lol. I told them they were new. The Guy insisted saying I’ll eat them if it’s not the problem! He ate em!!

It should read weep hole leaks occasionally due to poor design we gave up on fixing! Lol

It's been awhile since I've changed one of those, usually you can tell it's been changed before if it's rusty(no one bothers to paint them so they rust). If the truck has any kind of miles on it, and the pump hasn't been changed, its suspect.Every one I've ever done was dribbling out the weep hole,so there should be a coolant stain under the pump. You can pressurize the system and see if it leaks. Its an easy swap and is common on those motors but if it's not bad why change it? Don't forget the core if you do.And paint it makes it look better,I do_Other than that those were good motors.

Bring this thread back to life...how can I tell if its a weep hole or a leak. There is a constant drip. But only when cold and only on occasion?

If it has a cold weather leak coming out of the water pump that makes a constant drip, I would say it is getting close to an all weather leak.
