My brother in law ran a Uniden Pro 510xl with a ‘through the glass cell phone look alike’ antenna. It got out a good half mile on his 89 Chevy Beretta. When skip was rolling it would talk 1.5 miles easily.

Looked like this. He used the roof to ground plane.

Yep, 27MHZ doesn't do well with those handy cellphone type of antenna, unfortunately.

They can if you mount them like keydown fighting sticks. One on the front windshield in the top center, one in the rear center at the top.

    Slowmover1 Thanks this.

That sounds like day-cab. Ever actually tried it? Co-phase? (I barely know what is fight stick; from pics only). Antennas actually get far enough above roof?

I’m about to install one on the windowglass of my travel trailer. The Canpground Radio. Will be fun to see if it’s 100-yards or a half-mile

LOL, no. I was kidding. My brother in law got about a mile or so, maybe 2 out of his.

    Meteorgray and Slowmover1 Thank this.

Slowmover, I'm sure that thru-glass antenna will be good for campground duty. All you got to do is find others in the campground who want to talk about as far as the two-cans-and-a-string used to do for us. :)

Now, get a 9-foot whip out there planted on the roof of your pickup and cuss with truckers on the Interstate from the convenience of your SilverStreak lounge and a beer in your hand.

The campground radio is that 1976 Robyn I bought.

The trailer got a skin tear near the roof on road side. Hit me recently that the best repair will be a 108” on a Breedlove.

The “real” antenna may be a Hy-Q on a Tarheel on roof.

I have a ways to go. Four so far (television, AM/FM, weather radio, campground CB).

    Cell phone?
    WiFi?
    Scanner?

    I’m guessing ten.

The pickup? Maybe a Sirio on a puck.

Unless I find one of the legendary

What the 10K wants to be.
