Thanks a lot for your time. I’m taking the petco run and plan on joining the gym to loose weight for summer Vegas thanks again!

Thanks all of you for your time. I’m going tomorrow 5 minutes down the street drive to JB Hunt terminal to start training. Wish I didn’t have to drive with a trainer for two weeks But I’m guessing the trainer may have the ability after a few days to say he’s got it down and if not we’ll i might get taught something I don’t know because we all know in trucking there is always something to learn.

How much experience do you have? Much better local jobs to be found local here in socal. I wouldn't take either to be honest. If you have at least a year you can go to a temp agency and make at least 18 an hr with ot after 8 and double time after 12

I have 11 months and 1 week. I left my ltl company that hired me with no experience at 20.00 an hour overtime after 10 hours because their equipment was unsafe and they only had 1 mechanic per shift and whenever I would find something wrong during my pretrip the manager would say to just go ahead and go. For example I barely had trailer breaks and they said to just go. I was put out of service at rainbow by Temecula till 1am they had to have a line driver after he got off duty take a company pickup truck with another guy to come get me and the truck as I was out of hours, then dispatch calls at 5 am to tell me I need to come in now lol. Luckily I showed my owner of responsibility form and the fine was not charged to me. I was new so I did it once then I told them no and I got retaliated for it. But it paid around 860 a week. I learned how to get in and out of the smallest places with the 48ft liftgate etc. After a few weeks I can apply for a company that has a dedicated local route weekends off morning start time and overtime after 8 hours but I was hoping to just stay at a company for 1 year to make it my 2 year and at the same time I’ve been Saving money in a business account and may buy my own truck which I have 6 companies that will give me local work. I don’t have a lot of expenses and I want to be able to take time off without asking someone who is going to say no or say yes and retaliate for it.

You’re doing fine. Just keep your nose clean while at JB. Keep a lookout for any openings while you’re there. Having a route means your off time will be predictable and that will help you visit other companies for interviews. When you’re doing local retail deliveries like this you’ll meet other drivers on your route and you can hit them up for the latest info.
    Good luck.

I've picked up Petco loads before on my P&D run. From what I've seen...JB Hunt DCS is their dedicated contract carrier. They have they're tractors parked at the distribution center. They also use them for yard jockeying as well. From what I heard about JB Hunt DCS...I think you get paid cpm, stop pay and a base salary. Averages out around $1200 a week. Home everyday.

They also use A LOT of other carriers as well. Practically every carrier you can think of...from OTR to LTL. UPS and FedEx seem to have contracts with them too. I see their warehouse workers loading up the trailers with rollers...floor loaded from nose to tail...ceiling to floor.

The job overall doesn't seem like a bad gig...IMO. The people I've talked to at Petco seemed professional and has a laid back atmosphere. Got to know a few of them by first name basis. Good luck.

Id jump on that Petco job if I was back in SoCal. those are like trucking dream jobs in my book. run all night and you keep busy and no traffic. Of course I'm not a big fan of JB Hunt but whatever. Aren't they in Moreno valley?

thanks for sharing your experience. JB also said when I finish my route and I haven’t run out my clock I can pickup at the rail yard for a flat price and I’m going out with a trainer to show me how to work at the rail yard. So I’m attaining that knowledge to. If I decide to get my tractor I can run containers as well as subcontracting to local companies.
