The way I see it, the freight has to be moved either way. If we are limited to 11 hours a day driving, it allows for a better schedule and more rest. Maybe freight is moving slower because of regulations? But wouldn't that drive the demand up therefore increasing the revenue in the industry and money in drivers pockets? Why are these people striking? Why would they want to risk their lives and others by driving tired? Isn't it smarter all around to have regulations in the industry? Enlighten me.
Aren't regulations a good thing?

Yesterday I had to drive tired in order to beat the 14 hour clock to get back to our yard in DFW to take my 34 hour break. I could have stopped in Bugtussle and taken a 34 hour break on the side of the road in the dirt, but I wanted some amenitites.
These regulations often make me drive when I'm tired and would like to take a nap. Now I have to bear down hard to beat the clock. I used to be able to take my sweet time, but not anymore.
If they work for you, fine. But why do people need a regulation to tell them they are sleepy? I just don't understand that.Last edited: Feb 8, 2019

Would this apply to your situation??
Personal conveyance is the movement of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) for personal use while off-duty. A driver may record time operating a CMV for personal conveyance as off-duty only when the driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work by the motor carrier. The CMV may be used for personal conveyance even if it is laden, since the load is not being transported for the commercial benefit of the motor carrier at that time. Personal conveyance does not reduce a driver’s or motor carrier’s responsibility to operate a CMV safely. Motor carriers can establish personal conveyance limitations either within the scope of, or more restrictive than, the guidance provided here -

Rideandrepair and homeskillet Thank this. -
As an O/O I do whatever I want. I can't imagine having to adjust/do what someone that I know is "going home for the night"
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Your drive time will be up when it's up. Just plan carefully to be a decent spot before it's really up. Even if you had say a 9 hour day.
Trouble begins when either a dispatcher horsewhips you or you get the case of gotta get to the barn horsieitis....Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Greg said we already have a thread exactly like this.
I was wrong. E-logs save lives -
14 hour clock is the problem. Felt the most by people pulling a van/reefer. The PC changes helped a little..but not enough. Atleast folks can leave, park and continue their 10 without starting their clock when they get kicked out after 8 hours sleeping in their dock.
Rideandrepair, Joetro and motocross25 Thank this.
