I have seen it used during hurricane relief efforts, but never for snow.

And tornado clean up in our area after the 1999 storm reduced us to showing our licenses to prove residency and be permitted to access our house inside the military control zone. Driving around entire two story houses in our streets was a experience.

FEMA labeled buckets showed up from everywhere and hauled all that trash to landfill which was reopened specifically for that. Took about three months.

The first half of my trucking lifetime has been spent battling snow. Logs be ######. I remember coming downgrade off US 322 in white line fever on 3 feet of powder with coffee in one hand, smokes in the other and a trainer eyeballing me carefully all the way down, we had made it that far from Toledo Oh regardless of that winter storm that afternoon and night. Morning of day two had us still punching through it for Harrisburg in deep snow. All I can say is thank god we had the fuel for it. Usually 300 gallons 1500 miles range, we burnt all that in about 450 that trip.

It's because the people in the midwest don't have their head up their arse and know how to prepare for a major winter storm.

IH Truck Guy, 12 ga and tramm01 Thank this.

Just because they say you can exceed HOS, doesn't mean you have to. They make the rules now let them live with them.

Because it’s not federal, it only says carrying perishable items through Oregon.

Im just glad I did not have to. Trailer was planted nicely back there. It was powder that day. More of a breaking traction problem than anything really. I was trapped in a RPM block of about oh... 1300 to 1450, anything less skidded the drives stalling and anything more spun them in that stuff. Once over the top then I could drag em down to 1200 and waited to hit the bottom.
