I did my TSA background check for my hazmat 5 years ago, I had no issues at all, but this latest notice to renew I got last week is misleading.

All the phone numbers for TSA listed on the page are out of service, except for the one at the top of the page which is the DMV in Sacramento. DMV has nothing to do with this as far as I'm aware. The website they list on the page to make an appointment www.hazprints.com, is not active, the domain is for sale and all the links I click pull up ads.
So I went to the www.tsa.gov/ , but nothing is clearly mentioning renewing a background check, the site makes it sound like I'm starting something new. When I click the Hazardous Materials Endorsement Threat Assessment Program application, they're asking all these questions that I've never seen before, such as what kind of license I will bring, but the drop down options don't make sense to me, the way things are worded, I'm lost. I don't remember going though all this.
When I select make an appointment, they ask
Please select the required documents to bring to your enrollment. Then click 'Next' to the option is outlying possessions of the united states. What is that, my license? I've never heard it worded like that.

I don't know about your State, but here in TN, when I did it 4 years ago I went to DMV took the test. Once I passed I kind of remember them giving me a "pass" paper that I took to an approved place that took fingerprints. The place was chosen by me but had to be approved to do fingerprints for DHS.

I just renewed my hazmat endorsement at the DMV like 3 months ago, but they didn't say anything about where to go. I didn't get anything other than my temp page. I live in Southern California which is total #### show. Everything I do in this state is nightmare. I have to take off work to do anything because the amount of people that live here and the DMV's are an all day event. I never went though all this in Illinois. I can not wait to move out of this state. All I know if I have to renew this and nothing of the phone numbers or website links are working. Why would the state send out of a notice with outdated information. I've done nothing but pull my hair out ever since i moved her. I HATE California.

This webpage specifically deals with Hazmat. This is Uncle Sam, the FMCSA, DOT etc that deals with Hazmat in cooperation with the TSA/Homeland Security.

Everything on that page is functional. Including where to find centers to visit IN YOUR STATE to follow through on the renewing or new Hazmat endorsements. etc etc etc.

Everything about Hazmat for renewing, new etc was changed approximately 2 years ago. Arkansas told me I will need a very large pile of documents to get Hazmat and go through this process if that is what I wanted. Gone are the days of easy peasy written test choices and grandfathering for this particular endorsement.

Also our state is a Real ID act of 2020, this is the year that renewals of anything will determine your status with this Act. If you complied fully and are successful, you are given a gold star on the renewed license of any kind, any class. IF YOU ARE NOT successful and not given this gold star, then you will be denied domestic boarding for flights or access to federal buildings and installations etc. Until you get it.

I already have my real ID, I've got though all the birth cert and SS card, and vehicle registration form. But there is a lot of ambiguity in the options on their site is what I'm saying. For example I just made an appointment for this Thursday. But after I clicked the finish button, I got a pop up saying, "if you don't receive a notification by 10 days contact us.. ect." That doesn't make sense, because the appointment I chose is 4 days from now. So what are they talking about 10 days notice. This is the BS I'm taking about. It was never like this.

I'm so happy I'm studying computers, and getting out of this trucking BS. This is what happens when you let the government run things. Everything goes to hell, they don't do anything right. The trucking industry has been destroyed with regulations. But yet, they let anyone vote in California.

By again, why did the DMV send me a reminder notice, with phone numbers and websites that are no longer in service. I had to go on google to find www.tsa.gov/. That info should have been on the page they sent me. That's California for you.

When I went to the DMV to get my real ID 3 months ago, EVERYONE was pissed off because they all had to keep going home and coming back. The info page that was send out didn't list all the required things at the time. They've updated it recently, but how does that happen. If you don't get to the DMV by 5 AM, and wait in line till 8AM when it opens, you will never get a parking. If you've never lived in California, do yourself a favor and never come here. It will be the biggest mistake in your life. My life now is all about getting out of this socialist state.

I enjoyed your post. Thank you kindly for writing.

The Revenuer in Arkansas (Same as your DMV.. and yes we use that word because they are part of the same branch of our State Govt involved in taxation as well) has a small billboard up inside the local office in the county. It lists exactly what you need in paperwork, then the fees you will need and so on top to bottom. Then you are told to go to Searcy for the Hazmat and a few other things there because there is a Office there that does that work. So you might make a trip to local Revenuer, then a big trip to Searcy for the rest of it and then sit home waiting for the mailing, even if it did take 10 days or whatever. (My carry license takes 62 days on average)

There is no hurry. You will get all that and have the nice CDL and Endorsement in good time. Wheels of our esteemed Government turns slowly and always that squeaky gear gets the greases. USUALLY. You don't want to be the one that gets taken care of without that grease. He he.

Here in the south, the revenuer where I am is small enough and slow enough to be able to renew your tags online or renew the license in person within 20 minutes most days. It's totally easy and no stress. Compared to say Maryland's Glen Burnie DMV which is a hellhole with hundreds of wailing souls trapped between floors waving meaningless papers.

Good luck to you. My thought is for you to wait a while. Even if it's 10 plus days. It should get to you sooner or later.

As far as I am concerned I am more than happy I disposed of my HM years ago. It did not get me any extra pay and only had aggravation and detail work to boot for the loads delivered perfectly. It's something I chose not to be involved with anymore. Despite that there is a orange-yellow HM Guide on the corner of my desk as part of the trucking industry. I like to keep up on things.

I got the notice this morning confirming my apportionment, so that's good. I'm going to bring everything including my kitchen to this apportionment.

By the way, it sounds like you live in a normal state with normal people x1Heavy. My best friend from Chicago is a National sales director for GE, It lived in CA for 10 years then finally got out of here because of the progressive income tax that punishes hard work. He moved to Florida for 5 years and now just moved to Indiana. He said, Chicago, Florida, and indiana's DMV process is so much easier and faster than California. I remember back in Illinois I use to go the a DMV that was made specifically for truckers, there were only 2 or 3 people in there most of the time. It was great.
That's pretty cool your DMV puts that info on the wall at the local building. That's smart. Our DMV sends notices out with disconnected phone numbers and websites that no longer exist. It's really scary. I terrified of getting into a car accident in CA and ending up in a hospital. The negligence is unreal in this state. I think it's a result of everyone driving so far to work because all the jobs are leaving and people are trying to pay their excessive rent fees. Very few have their head on straight in this state.

They have changed the process for haz mat endorsement, now you must go to the nearest facility that does twic cards and get your finger printing done once you receive your tsa clearance Via mail go to the dmv and renew. Also it not good for the 5 years anymore it’s only good for the maturity of your license!

Buckmaster1981, isn't that card only for people who go to sensitive locations? I just drive a propane truck in residential neighborhoods, and some commercial properties, but not government places. So I probably don't need the card right? As far as renewing at the DMV, I already renewed my CDL about 5 months ago, then 3 months later I went back and renewed my hazmat endorsement which I had to take a test. Now just last week I finished the threat assessment renewal. That's 3 different visits I've had to fork out cash for. Are you saying I'm going to get something in the mail and have to go back to the DMV again? Because I'm sick of missing work every time I have to go into that over crowed place.

On a side note, seems everyone is so money hungry in this new world today. All these visits to and from the DMV, they're nickle and dimming everyone. It's even like that in the computer industry now. Years ago you passed your test, got a certification and you were good. Now you have to renew every three / sometimes 2 years and pay anal fees to keep your certifications active. I get hit every day with email offers from CompTIA, (the organization who establishes standards in testing for Microsoft certs) trying to get me to sign up for practice tests, and other BS. I feel bad for people who are on the street and trying to study to get themselves out of the hole their in, they can't take the next step because the cost of the tests today are ridiculous. CompTIA charges $440.00 to take an A+ test and if you fail, you don't get three chances, you have to pay again to take the test. Some tests are even more.
