I have been a driver for over 9 years and just received my million mile ring. I took a short break and then decided to start up again and was given a great line of B.S. from US Xpress. They told me a different cpm rate. They said I would be the lower 48 and that didn't happen. They said that if the time was documented on the BOL's then detention and layover times would be paid. None of that was true and on average, I sat for over 35 hours per week for the three weeks I was there. I do not jump around like a lot of drivers but the first check, which included the first installment of the sign on bonus, which was a thousand dollars, was only $575.00.
There are trucking companies out there and then there are delivery companies. This is below both. The icing on the cake and the reason for this letter, my first of it's kind ever of my life, was because after being away from them for over a year I get this e-mail from their accounting dept. that says tey are going to take me to collections if I don't send them $44.50 for some cargo straps I had to buy in the few short weeks I was there. I turned in and had all of the equipment signed off but the shop manager but I guess, like everything else about this company, that didn't matter.
Smart business will tell you that for them to spend office time looking for something like this after over a year of not being there it cost them more to look for it than to receive it.
This company is why the trucking business gets such a bad rap. The big wigs sit in their offices and don't care about those of us out on the road making them money.

9 years and you decide a recruiter is honest? Just 5 minutes of research would have told you what you learned the hard way. Bet you don't make that mistake again.

    Always get it in writing.

They can say whatever they want, and it’s your word vs their word when it comes down to it. You need a written contract of employment, detailing all the terms of employment and compensation.

Of course, a company like US Express has all that, plus probably a hundred other forms and policies that you sign before you ever sit in their truck.

So either you didn’t read what you agreed to, or you have a watertight lawsuit against them.

If you signed a contract stipulating $0.XX rate of pay, but have stubs to prove they paid you less - go after them.

If they agreed in writing to pay you detention and you met all the requirements but weren’t paid - go after them.

If they reimbursed you for equipment you purchased right before you quit - why are you entitled to that? If the shop manager signed off that you returned it, simply show them that.

We learned this kind of common sense in high school. Read what you sign. Keep a copy of what you sign. If you don’t understand what you’re reading, don’t sign it.

How long have you been out of a truck? If you kept your CDL then you'd have far more better options than a company that hires STUDENTS.
