    PennDOT announces tentative vehicle restrictions

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Pennsylvania Turnpike are advising motorists that the agencies are tentatively planning to implement varied vehicle restrictions during a storm expected to impact the state on Sunday.

The agencies continue to monitor the forecast and an update on anticipated restrictions will be issued later Saturday afternoon.

Tentatively, at 10 a.m. Sunday, a full commercial vehicle ban (including buses) may be implemented on the following roadways: Interstate 70 (full length); the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) from New Stanton to Carlisle; Interstate 79 from the West Virginia state line to Interstate 90; Interstate 80 from Interstate 376 to Interstate 81; Interstate 99 (full length); Interstate 180 (full length from Route 220/U.S. 15 to Interstate 80); Interstate 279 (full length); and Interstate 376 south of Interstate 76.

Also at 10 a.m. Sunday, the agencies may prohibit only empty, straight CDL-weighted trucks; all large combination vehicles (double trailers); tractors hauling empty trailers; any trailers pulled by motorcycles, passenger vehicles, pickup trucks or SUVs; all motorcycles; and all recreational vehicles and RVs on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76 from the Ohio state line to New Stanton); Interstate 80 from the Ohio state line to Interstate 376; and Interstate 376 from Interstate 80 to Interstate 76.

Tentatively at noon on Sunday, the agencies may implement a full commercial ban (including buses) on Interstate 78 (full length from Interstate 81 to the New Jersey state line); Interstate 80 from Interstate 81 to the New Jersey state line; Interstate 81 from Interstate 78 to the New York state line; Interstate 84 (full length from Interstate 81 to the New York state line; Interstate 380 (full length from Interstate 81 to Interstate 80); Interstate 476 (Pennsylvania Turnpike, Northeast Extension) north of Interstate 78; Route 22 from Interstate 78 to the New Jersey state line and Route 33 from Interstate 78 to Interstate 80.

Also at noon on Sunday, they may prohibit only empty, straight CDL-weighted trucks; all large combination vehicles (double trailers); tractors hauling empty trailers; any trailers pulled by motorcycles, passenger vehicles, pickup trucks or SUVs; all motorcycles; and all recreational vehicles and RVs on the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Carlisle to Valley Forge; Interstate 81 from the Maryland state line to Interstate 78; Interstate 83 (full length); Interstate 176; and Interstate 283.

Getting to the point we may as well assume pa will have us banned permanently from September to may, easier to tell us when they're open..

Seems like way more restrictions this winter than I ever remember..

I would rather them err on the side of caution rather than have the trainwreck that they had 2 years ago. It really looked like the apocalypse. Trucks stranded everywhere. Unfortunately DOT is horrible in PA. Worst in the country. This actually helps a lot. I'd rather be shut down before my 14 starts and stay home in bed a few hours longer than get on the road and drive 15 mph and hope I don't jack knife into some dumb ### half on the shoulder and half on the road because he cannot see the road. No plow trucks in sight and accidents everywhere. Police stretched thin due to the amount of accidents and my entire day ruined for loads that I know cannot be delivered on time or maybe not that day.

Governor Tom Wolf if you read this, THANK YOU for helping this situation for truckers all across this state. You put the burden and responsibility in your hands rather than my company's. My company and others talk about safety but we all know it is driven by profit.

To all you super truckers that think you can handle it..... suck it up.

    Horrible pre-storm planning.
On the other hand, PA is a good place to purchase a lightly used snow plow truck.

Give it about two or three years until the currently new trucks hit the sales. Crew cab ten wheeler dump trucks. I hear they sleep five!

Thats arguable. Maybe 4 or 5 storms for all of PA, those storms always brinf statewide restrictions but they never amount to more than 4 inches east of 81, south of 78. Tonight were on deck to get 7 inches east of 81 south of 78. Finally a sizable storm.....

We had 3 to 4 inches friday morning east of 81, south of 78. Zero restrictions.....
